Sensors on Default?
Sensors on Default?
2000 Maxima SE
I'v had a 200rpm drop at 1700rpms for a while now. I have been chasing this problem for a while now.
The other day i noticed it does not drop from 1700-1500rpms when the car is cold...i can hold the accelerator at 1700 ONLY when cold.
Are there ANY sensor that don't send info while the engine is cold, and only sends once warm? Or any sensors the ECU does not read until warm?
Once the car is normal warm temp, i cannot get the engine to hold 1700rpms! Also when either in 1st or 2nd that rpm causes the trans to jump... this sounds like a flywheel sensor to me?
any ideas what sensors the ECU doesn't read until the motor is warm?

The car is in an open loop when you start it up and its cold but once it warms up it switches to a closed loop. This is because it takes awhile for the o2 sensors to heat up and send a proper reading. It is likely that on or more of your sensors is bad and when your car starts up and is in open loop and running off base maps with no sensor input it is fine but then once it switches to closed loop and relies on the sensors it messes up. Im not sure exactly which sensors must warm up to give proper readings and which do it from a cold start but I know the o2's must warm up so I would start there. Your fuel trims are probably bad so you get a dip in RPM's at whatever point it is. Ask jesse from fast and furious, he knows all about the 4th gen fuel trims

Is this drop only noticeable while your driving or does it do it in park standing still?
Automatic transmission I presume?
If any of the above is true then most likely what your seeing is the torque converter locking. It will only lock at steady throttle, usually over 30 MPH and only when the transmission is up to operating temperature.
