Front Speakers for Bose System?

i have an 02 with the Bose stereo. i want to upgrade the front speakers to something better, but i heard somewhere you have to be careful replacing speakers when dealing with bose set ups.something to do with the ohms it puts out...?

Yeah, Bose runs most of their stuff at 2 ohms, and most aftermarket speakers are gonna be 4 ohms.

*ninja edit*

Upgrade the deck. You'll be amazed how a better quality deck can make speakers sound better.

I upgraded my deck, but i tend to run it around 35-45% power to hear it as the bose amp can't really power them. You would be better off running the wires from the deck to the new speakers or replace the amp and speakers and have a wonderful sounding system.

If I ever decide to upgrade my system, all the Bose stuff is coming out, including the head unit. I have my eyes on Hybrid Audio speakers, and i'd go with Cerwin Vega for the sub since their speakers are great quality and i've owned their products for 20+ years without any complaints.

He hit it dead on. You'll be amazed how even a different set of speakers will sound. You don't need to go out dropping 200 dollars a piece on some super high end speakers, but then again, don't get 10 dollar pyramid ones. If you want some nice bang for your buck, look into the Polk dbs. You can get all 4 for about 100-120 bucks brand new. Pair it with a new deck and you'll be sounding pretty darn sweet.

i think so too...i'm not looking to spend more $$ on a head unit, while mine works perfectly fine....i would just like a little more kick. plus i like the features the stock Bose offers me with the car. i can use the buttons on the sterring wheel and change the channel or the volume...
all i would like is to put in a better set of speakers in the doors...

anybody????

Sigh...

So much terrible information mixed in with good information here.

First, Bose speakers run at 2ohm, not 1.

Second, LISTEN TO THE ADVICE THAT IS GIVEN.

The Bose HU is crap. It puts out terrible quality audio. Your Bose speakers are capable of handling better sound. You CANNOT just replace the Bose speakers. You have to replace the HU. So replace it (because you have to) AND because it will make your Bose speakers sound better, you'll get additional functionality like aux input, iPod, bluetooth, etc. And you can definitely retain steering wheel controls with an aftermarket deck.

Also, please read the "Bose Radio Replacement Thread" in the audio section. It's worth it to understand the dynamics of the Bose system.

A6. NO, NO, NO. Once again, the speaker runs on 1ohm, most, 99% of aftermarket speakers run on 4ohms. You will ruin the amp or your speaker, whichever comes first.
Hence my confusion

So 2 ohms it is?

what I did years ago is replace the front bose tweeters in the A column with a pair of infinity 1011t 4-ohm silk-dome tweeters:

The stock tweeters are actually 4 ohm so these worked great and really improved the clarity of the music. Easy upgrade at the time.
