CEL not illuminating

yup keep the black base though and just swap bulbs. Im thinking the 5.5 gen has the same indicator light system as 5th gens

i opened up my cluster recently on my 5.5 gen and THERE IS NO BULB FOR THE CEL. its a LED soldered to the circuit board, so u can try to solder a new one if its really burnt out, kinda hard to believe, if not u need a used cluster.
i once knew somebody who was selling a car with a CEL on and he wanted to take out the bulb to sell the car but when he opened the cluster it was also a LED soldered on, so he put some black tape on top of the LED so it wouldnt show.
has anyone shady been working on ur car? leds dont burn out that often......

I bought mine with the bulb already burnt out. In fact, most of the bulbs were. Just go on ebay and buy a bag of like 20-30 T10 LEDs (you don't need multi-directional ones because its only to illuminate 1 icon per bulb). Then, go and switch them all out at once. Make sure they are in the right way before putting the dash back together, as they are polarized. There are lights for optional features: TCS, SLIP, and SPORT. You will have bulbs for TCS and SLIP unless your car does not have traction control. As for SPORT, no Maximas in North America have that.
Make sure you test everything: don't forget the cruse control functions, turn signals, high beams, and all the other indicators.
Hopefully you won't discover that your SES was supposed to be on. When I did the LED conversion, I discovered that the SES had been on since before I even got the car.

Aren't all the bulbs in the cluster T5 #74 base?
It shouldn't matter because on a 5.5 cluster there are only a few T5 bulbs that are actually easy to swap. The rest of the indicators are surface mounted LEDs and i'd be more likely to believe a loose connection or broken solder point than the LED going bad. Especially on a CEL indicator which is only illuminated half of the time on a Maxima.

Need help dropping those bulbs in?
Hey D maybe we can both try to drop some led bulbs in before work soon. I already have some blue t10's for my cluster I need to put in. Looked up the procedure and it does not look too hard. Let me know man.
