Think about it this way, or take a look at it in different colors. When the mirrors match, its not that bad (In normal colors that it). The M3 GTS has this incredible orange, so I tried it on a max.

...and it looks downright awful!

It doesn't even look that good on the M3, and it makes a Maxima look tasteless and trashy.

Only one orange car I can think of ever looked right, and that was 36 years ago.

But really, it only looked good because it was 1976, and it was a somewhat silly car anyway.

Orange is horrendous on just about every car you could ever put it on. Including that horrific Orange/Brown/Gold abortion of a paint job that came on the 350Z from the factory.

I'm with Rochester on this, though that wasn't the one car I was thinking of (I agree, however, it does look pretty good. Lol). The car I was thinking of was the Dodge Challenger 440 R/T in true Hemi Orange!

EDIT: Oh, and you are correct Tommy. I am incredibly opinionated, and my opinion is that your idea (with the color choices available) is just terrible, and regardless of whether it catches on or not, I will never buy into it. It's looks ridiculous.

Well, I disagree about orange. It can look good on many cars, but it is bold.

The problem with that PS'd picture of the orange car is the orange/black.

Black rims look ridiculous on any car painted any colour, period.

Stupidest trend ever is black face with lip. I wish it would just die, wrecking so many otherwise nice cars.

Orange done right, has to be the right type of orange, and IS hard to pull of properly.

And then a perfect example of how Black rims Destroy the idea:

Plastidip is like mayonnaise. A little bit goes a long way on your bacon cheeseburger, but if you're gonna sit there with a spoon and eat it out of the jar, then that's just gross.

T_Behr, you've added an excellent and on-topic observation to this serious discussion. If I may, I'd like to add Nutella and Fluffernutter to this list. Both are delicious, and both will eventually make you hurl chunks. Just like Plastidip.

Thank you.

Ranch dressing......Paint is just on of those perosnal things. People hate how I painted some of my trim pieces black but I think it looks better. Its just like a 9 to some guys will be a 5 to others. Vagina and paint is more easily comparable lets go with that....

How is that even REMOTELY the same?

It is literally just temporary, not harmful, MATTE paint. Thats it! Its paint without shine that you can remove.

Thats like saying "Its ok to paint a car a little bit, but doing the whole car is too much".

Orange is an obnoxious color. The Maxima isn't really an obnoxious car by nature. Obnoxious color's look better on obnoxious cars. The Maxima looks much better with less in-your-face coloring. For example, I don't think that red would look very good on a 5th gen, but the Merlot/Burgundy color that they came with looks excellent.

The magic of the Maxima is it's ability to look settled down, grown up, and even slightly refined, and then offer a riot when you drive it spiritedly.

Finally. Boy, I'm glad that got settled. The idea of a matte orange Maxima was starting to really bother me.

Actually it's really a great comparision.
And painting a car an ugly colour is ugly whether you paint a little or a lot, doesn't matter.....

MATTE paint is fine. It has it's place. Black, Silver, dark green, white Stuff like that. Basic non-flashy colours.

Orange, Pink, Purple, lime green, etc, these are colours that look aweful in a MATTE finish. These are colours that can only be done in Kandy/Pearl, etc, if you want it to look good.
BUT clearly making the car LOOK GOOD is NOT something on your priority list.

You have this mindstate, it seems, that just because you CAN do something, and it's reversable, and Cheap, that it's worth doing or is a good idea.

Well said sir.

The maxima is suited to Rich colours. Like The merlot, Pearl white, etc.

Cramsicle orange on that 4th gen looks good. Period. i dont know why, and I don't htink it would look as good on the 5th gen, if it would look good at all.

BUT done right on a tastefully modded 4th gen, with NO OTHER dumb colours or 2 tone effect, it does look perfectly fine.

Surprised no one has said "If you like it, do it!". But that is just pure insanity.

I just got some lowering springs, and after I lower it I shall be painting it matte orange.

It seems that too many people respond with Band wagon answers such as "No body does that". "People would laugh at you and its not popular"

As opposed to "I personally like!".

Its actually kind of odd how you guys turn fact into "This is a good color, this not a good color. Everyone likes this, no one likes that".

People have different tastes for a reason.

I'll post pics when its done

You did get a few of those responses.

Sure certain things are subject of personal taste. If you didn't care what we/everyone else thought you never would have started or participated in this thread.
Clearly that DOES play into this for you personally, as it does for all of us to some degree whether we admit it or not.

Matte orange just won't look good. That's it.

I clearly stated that orange, etc, CAN look good, but Matte orange will not look good on your car dude, it jsut wont.

Anyways, go nuts, I have doubts you willa ctually do this, and if you do, higher doubts that you'll post picutres of it.

All the bandwagons suck, and I don't jump on them. I said Orange was stupid and I didn't like it and that it would look ugly, because I personally think it looks stupid and ugly. I don't give a crap whether everyone else likes it. If they don't like it, they can say so. I personally think you are little on the fruity side with all this pink, purple, rainbowy stuff, but, again, that's only my personal observation and opinion.

I'm as straight as they come LOL, but honestly I like things that other people wouldn't do. Not in a "Look at me I have more ***** than you" kind of way, because sometimes people don't do things like this because they are ugly.

I really just do it because I like when my car turns heads. Granted, if it had a 6 foot wing with mixed matched tires and no doors, I wouldn't like that kind of attention. I guess what I'm trying to say is- It can be goofy and awesome too.

What I'm saying is with the color combinations you are selecting or considering, you will turn the same heads, in the same manner, as if you did have a 6 foot wing, mismatched tires, and no doors. Ugly is ugly.

This whole discussion is like having an argument about which of the sexually transmitted diseases is best...

OK, that was kind of funny.

My 2-cents is for gun-metal. Instead of turning your car into a French hooker, go stealth.

All joking aside...

...Gunmetal with flake. Probably blue or green. It's dark, but not completely black, and it doesn't have that standout color. At the same time though, I would even seriously consider orange flake in it. Just enough that it gives off a glimmer of orange when the light hits it.

My personal preference with cars has always been to make very simple modifications to cars that don't draw a ton of attention to themselves, but rather, when they get the little bit of attention that they do, people will really appreciate what's been done.

A darker color with just about ANY color flake is classy with a hint of wild. A crazy color like orange is, like I said before, obnoxious. Trust me, you can turn plenty of heads with something as simple as cleanliness and class.

Why do you think people break their necks when a Maybach, or a Rolls Royce drives by? It's not because it's their favorite car or it's painted Orange. Those cars stand out because of simplistic class and style.

That's my personal taste though. Once again putting jokes aside; everyone has their own personal preference, so do what you do man, but I'll still bust your ***** about it till the cow's come home. Hahaha.

Orange is a great color for what amounts to a show car or a tuner car with some INSANE engine swap triple turbo + supercharged alternator with more vinyl than a 70s record store.

I don't think there are many people that are more difficult to offend than me. It's just the internet, it's not nearly as serious as some people take it. Besides, we're all going to be dead sooner or later, might as well act accordingly.

I love threads like these...they are all the same, the OP comes in with some totally stupid idea about wanting to be "different" from other Maxima owners and comes up with a brilliant scheme to do so...little does he realize that the ideas for his car have not been done before because most Maxima owners don't want to look like bozo the clown driving around town. Then everyone starts chiming in about how gawdy it looks and the OP gets offended because everyone is telling him their opinion because he didn't seem to realize that he posted his idea on a public forum where opinions are expressed and starts getting angry because no one likes his god awful ideas on modifying his car.

Oh and btw, I hate to break this to you but if you wouldn't like the kind of attention I highlighted above in your quote, then I would suggest trying something different. Because the only reason heads will be turning to look at your car is so they can point and laugh and snap a pic to post on Facebook mocking your car or to put in the ricer photos thread here on the org.
