Removed my BOP...
The BOP had been on the car for over a year now, and I got used to the way the car felt with it. Loss of power/torque from 2000rpm to about 4000rpm, then a kick in the butt at 4000rpm all the way to the red line.
According the the FSM, the VIAS is opened from idle to 1800rpm, then closes from 1800rpm to 3600rpm, then opens up again until red line. Removing the VIAS creates an air flow disturbance between 1800rpm and 3600rpm, which is why the engine looses torque, then around 4000rpm, when the air flows better when both the upper and lower chambers of the intake manifold are opened to each other comes the kick in the butt.
Last week end, I decided to remove my BOP and put the VIAS back on the intake manifold, just to feel the difference. What I had in mind was keeping it like this for a week or two, then put the BOP back on...
However, I think I will leave the VIAS on... I forgot how smooth and well rounded the power band was with the VIAS... The high end gains of 2hp or 3hp are not worth the 10/15hp loss at mid range in my opinion. The way I drive my car, I'm most of the time below 4000rpm anyways, so keeping the VIAS on works better for me. If I was to go to the track, where I would keep the tach above 4500rpm, then I'd put the BOP back on... but for now, I love the way the smoothness and low/mid range torque feels, and hopefully, I can gain on my gas mileage too...
Not trying to hate on Aaron's BOP, it's a great product, proven to provide gains above 4000rpm, but whether it's for you or not depends on where you like your power.

After all my bolt-ons (spacers, intake, full Cattman exhaust, fastcat, and Transgo hd2 kit) I've considered doing this as well. Particularly being an automatic.
As said, it's proven. But looking at my driving and where my rpm's run, I'm in agreement with swapping it out for the vias for a bit. Course, will test the system first to absolutely verify its working properly.

That's the beauty of a fully reversible mod.
For me, it wasn't the few extra HP at the top end, it was the way the engine felt so smooth with the BOP. That whole VIAS kick... never liked it. Not one bit.
I think my VIAS is still in the attic somewhere, along with the OEM air intake. Hmm...

Sorry. My Vias will never go back on. The 3.5 has enough torque on its own. I freaking love the kick in da balz when it swings past 4k. Thats when I know I need tires. The tires will lose traction after 4k when I need em.
Loose precat crap could easily get sucked back into the engine and damage the rings.
IJS, possible.
Taking the initiative and verifying my vias worked (it did stick a little...fixed that) I re-installed it approximately 6 weeks ago. Wanted to do some consistent driving, monitor impressions, and get several fuel mileage readings.
Results: Yes, the power band felt smoother, but that was about it. I noted the car just continued to feel like it was pushing about the same up through redline. My fuel economy was overall unchanged and I could not determine I used any less throttle when driving/cruising.
Once I re-installed the block-off plate, made me grateful to have that little bit of extra kick up high for when passing.
Final Call: VIAS goes away perminently (For sale; PM me!). BOP here to stay. Really, any suprise?

Amen to that. It's funny because you see the driver is protected with helmet, gloves, fireproof racing suit with 3-point harness and there's a hot model half naked with no bra, little or no clothing on and gravity...
