Found these dope headlights that fit in 2000-2001 Maximas. I have a 2002 se. Will they fit then? Because 5th gen is 2000-2003? What would be the difference in a 2000, or 2001 to a 2002? http://www.andysautosport.com/nissan...d00000213.html

Don't buy them. The projectors and halo rings suck, they also sell a pair without the projectors. They suck too.

If you want black headlights then open up your OEM ones and paint them. The difference between the 00-03 is Nissan redid the headlights to the 02-03 which is why people call it the 5.5 Gen. 00-01 is the 5th Gen, the wiring is different on both of them. People on here have converted to the 02 styled headlights. You can retrofit your headlights to projectors if you really wanted them.

The 5.5 has more to it, the high beams and low beams are separate unlike a 01. They also added a clearance light or seperate running lights on the 02-03 so it doesn't use the turn signal like the 01.

Just to answer OP's question, yes they will fit physically. Since they are for 00-01 then they are non-HID (I believe) and '02-03 are HID, so you'll have to figure out the wiring yourself which isn't hard.

Prices can be found cheaper...Andy's is usually higher in price for most products I've researched.

Well can somebody post a link of some dope headlights that I could get? I don't want to paint them, because I don't know how to do all that, and I'm not too good with cars in general, considering how it's my first car and everything, but if anybody can point me in the right direction of some dope headlights, that'd be ill, but why don't you guys really recommend these? can't I just get better bulbs for them or something? Like, the whole point of these headlights are to actually see, more than the looks? I thought people got them for the looks, and just kept the normal bulbs it came with, but reading around seeing everyone talking about 9000k and 6000k and Xenon? or something? I'm just confused. It'd be nice if somebody could give me a reply "for dummies" if you will.

Just to give you a heads up, the halos or in-line LED's will NOT be visible during the day. The only way you are going to see those fancy LED's is at night, with the actual headlights turned off...assuming you correctly wire the LED's to the parking light leads. The projectors on those are terrible and scatter light everywhere. IMO, the knock-off version with the OEM style reflector housings are better, although still not great by any means.

As for wiring, it's not rocket science, but I wouldn't consider it simple either...especially if you have no prior experience.

My vote is to pass on those. You'll save yourself lots of headaches later on.

I have a similar pair but with the chrome housing (in my avatar). The light output isn't great and I wasn't able to see sufficently at night until I got an HID kit. It involved drilling the headlight holes a little larger to fit the Xenon bulb. With that, the light output is better than stock. But, some people don't really like the extra LEDs/eyebrow effect. Plus, I think the 02 and 03 headlamps are slightly larger so you may have a gap issue. Maybe a little weatherstripping would help in that case. The parking lights and turn signals won't be compatable, though.

Honestly, if you want to do this the right way and have near OEM quality, use the OEM 2002-03 HID headlights and have someone from here mod them with LED strips. I don't remember the exact username, but there was a guy on here doing it for maybe around $200. Name might have been "something-something"-USMC. I'll take a look and see if I can find the thread.

Bottom line is don't waste your money on these replica style lights. I bought my OEM replicas with angel eye lights and converted them to HIDs...Besides spending hours screwing around with wiring them correctly, to pass state emissions/inspection I just spent over $350 to replace LEDs and ballasts/igniters because the lights would either flicker or not turn-on at all.

Do it the right way and do it once. If it's too expensive for you to do that at this time, then you need to wait until you can afford to do it the right way.

P.S. The 2001 lights are not going to fit well into a 2002-03. Don't believe what the websites tell you.

I don't remember if ALL 2002-2003's come stock with HID...are your's HID or not?

If yes, then you can open up the headlight assemblies and install LED strips wherever you want them, then connect the LEDs to the parking light wires.

If no, then plan on spending about $700 for the pair. (I've ordered from www.rockauto.com and I've been happy with their service.) Once you get the lights, refer to the above.

I think you should just open them and customize it however you want. I know nothing about cars and I just did mine last light. Just pop them in the oven for like 15 minutes on 200 degrees and you're all good.

All 2002-2003 Maxima's came with HID's.

I have the black housing Spec D's without the projector. They fit perfectly. The light reflection is pretty poor though. I put some nice bright bulbs in them and they're definitely bright enough to see the road and where you're going, but the light spread isn't focused enough in my opinion. I opted for these only because the original owner took the factory HID's out and installed 2000-2001 headlights and screwed the wiring.

Wiring wasn't too much of a pain if you're fairly astute, but make sure you use good connectors to keep the connections dry. I used the wiring layout from the FSM and a thread on here regarding retrofitting. Just use the search and you'll find it, it was a pretty popular thread.

Anyways, pics. My car is silver, and the headlights clash a bit, but they look better than the "blingy" chrome ones, so I can't complain too much. Plus I picked these headlights up brand new for $170 for the pair on Amazon.

Picture in the day, so you can see what they look like. They look almost factory but with black housing and halos. I do not have the halos wired up btw, I think they look stupid. Lol. And do not be fooled by the passenger side headlight. The fitment is fine. My car was poorly repaired by the previous owner after an accident.


Hope this helps. I'll subscribe to this thread, so feel free to ask for more pictures or whatever. I need to take some better night shots of the lights anyways, this time with my camera.

You need to search. All of the answers to these questions have been discussed in detail before and are still available for you to read through.

My first post already addressed these OEM style knock-offs.


Plain and simple, and for the 3rd time, either get a knock-off and deal with the poor quality, dim LEDs, and terrible light output....or search the forum on how to modify your current headlights. Case closed.

The only reason that I went with the Spec D's is due to the fact that the wiring was screwed on my car due to the PO installing 2000-2001 (albeit incorrectly), and I was busy spending money to mend the running status of my car instead, so I decided to go with the most inexpensive option I could find.

I WISH I HAD GONE WITH OEM HID'S AND BLACK HOUSED THEM INSTEAD OF BUYING THE SPEC D'S! THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!! THEY DON'T LOOK TERRIBLE, BUT THE LIGHT REFLECTION AND FOCUS IS GARBAGE!

The lights look fairly bright in the picture I posted, but do not be mistaken, they do not project down the road as well as they should. You won't be wowed by these lights at all. They are a decent alternative to factory if you are short on cash, and don't have a feasible OEM option. Beyond that, I see absolutely no reason to get these over OEM.

I can help you with the black housing. I haven't done the high beams though. Go to http://www.shiftice.com/clear_HIDs.html and follow the instructions. I have a set of the Malibu lenses that I didn't use. I could sell you them and I'll include the amber lens so you can cut it out before you open the light. Shoot me a PM of you're interested or have any questions.

So in short.. what exactly do I do?

1. Remove headlight from car.

2. Unscrew ballast and remove bulbs. There will be wires attached to the headlight, just tuck them into the bulb slots.

3. Pre-heat oven to 200, place headlight on rack with aluminum paper for 15 minutes.

4. Remove headlight with oven mits and start prying at the little tabs on top of the headlight then keep prying until it opens. If the glue gets hard then place it back in the oven for about 3 minutes.

5. Once open, remove the small screws in the back and it should release the housing.

6. Then paint it whatever color you want.

7. Screw everything back together and put it back the best you can.

8. Put it back in the oven and take it out after 10 minutes to push it in as tight as you can.

9. Place it back in for a couple more minutes and then push it in again.

10. Put bulbs and screw ballast back on.

11. Install headlights and admire the results.

I choose not to put any lenses on the turn signal. PM me if you have any questions. It's easier than it looks.

I've been looking to buy some new headlights for my 01 Maxima SE (non-20th) since both of mine broke in an accident and I was wondering if there are any good reviews for either K2Motor or GForceUsa. Also, anyone buy SPEC-D products? Are they good quality and reliable? Im leaning towards Gforce just for the sake of it being Amazon.

Also since I doubt you guys will recommend them at all lol, how would painting the headlights look on 01 headlights? From What I see, not much to be painted in the lights. Wanted to do an HID kit install as well, should I just stick with them in stock housing thats painted or get these lights that OP was looking at?

buy ebay reflector dual halo headlights, open them up and paint them the color of your choice, throw away the crappy halos that they come with & upgrade to SMD LED halos and you're set!

Do you have a link to the ones you had bought? Those look really nice. At this point I can care less about the Halos, I like the black paint and blue Hid look. Im just looking at these for now and just do a bi-xenon HID kit install and LED turn signals. Or would normal ones look the exact same if I was to paint them?

I have the black housing Spec D's and I hate them. They're made ok. I haven't had any fogging or cracking or anything like that, it's just that the light projection is garbage. The reflector for the low beam is just a solid chrome piece, so the light just goes wherever it wants. I have 55 watt low beam lights and they are pretty dim compared to 55 watts I've used in other lights with decent reflectors.

I dont have many pictures of them (especially at night, which is when they REALLY stand out) up but the pictures just dont do them justice. I recently got 6k HIDs on my 5.5 and it made the color matching nearly spot on.

I also bought my HID kit on ebay, they are the Zentec 5000k ones. I don't recommend Zentec at all because the quality of them is crappy, if you want after market HID's go with DDM tuning.
As for the original 5th gen headlights, you can just bake them and AE'd them out. It's a pretty easy process and it will look better than the ones you are looking to buy on ebay in my opinion. Hope that helps a little, cheers!

Thanks for all your help everyone! What I decided it to do is go with stock headlights and paint them black, install a hi/lo 8000k or 10000k HID kit, and smoke the lens. From a cosmetic, itll still look decently nice since the black matches my body and the blue from the HIDs would match my other lighting. Im also gonna smoke my taillights and bumper lights as well. Instead of that much money on headlights and cosmetics, maybe I'll work on electrical mods(need a cap or might run a 2nd battery for my system) or get a CAI or catback
