ATF Flush or Fill and Drain?

ATF Flush or Fill and Drain?
I had a $20 coupon for an oil change so at that price it doesn't pay to do it myself. The guy recommended a transmission flush. Mine has 180K miles on it and I said a flush shouldn't be done on high mileage transmissions. He said the Max doesn't have an AT filter so it is recommended to do a full flush. Any comments? BYW it is a 2K Max.

NEVER DO A MACHINE POWERED FLUSH. To any transmission.
This is your best bet: http://forums.maxima.org/fluids-lubr...in-refill.html

FLUSH has two different meanings..machine flush (power flush) is where they drain the trans fluid and pressurized chemicals/cleaners get sprayed in, then they get drained, then trans gets refilled. BAD
"Fluid Exchange" method is like Dialysis for the car. Basically, the drain plug gets pulled and old fluid goes out, at the same time, new fluid gets pumped in while the car is up in the air, getting shifted through the gears. This uses your car's own pump, so no pressure difference or anything. When teh fluid that drains out is the new stuff, they stop and you're all good.
Then there's the drain and fill mentioned above. Safest...but to get most of the old fluid out, you have to repeat the drain/fill process twice or more.
I have had the fluid exchange method done on my old 97 Grand Am (with 195K miles, original engine and tranny) with no problems what so ever.

flushes are bad for high mileage tranny. The pressurized flush knocks things loose and u don't want little derbies floating in your tranny big trouble just search the forum for horror stories after ATF flush... i did simple drain and refill and it worked fine it,s recommended to do couple of time to get all the fluids out but i didn't and i am happy with the results...
