5.5 ECU Coding

Hey everyone, i just had the infamous motor mount buzz blow out what looks like the ECU on my car the other day since the thing smells like a car fire, and i couldnt connect to the obd2 port with my scan tool, it was saying error reading.

I am grabbing another ECU on monday from a local shop, I have read because we have the security keys or magnetic keys that the new ecu needs to be programmed at the dealership and to bring all of my keys and remotes from what I have read.

Is there anything else i should look at replacing before I go get the programming done? i will be taking the electrical wires and disconnecting them so I dont blow out the new ecu. The car is a 3.5 automatic if that matters.

Thanks in advanced I just want to be sure when i tow it there i have everything I need looked at so they can program and I can just go.

Thanks

Jay

Naw, that's pretty much the gist of it. Unplug the motor mounts and they can't fry your ECU again.

I don't know if you're electrically inclined but it's fairly simple solder work to change out the STA chip yourself. The chips are like $10 on ebay.

Unplug your mounts (front and back) and check fuses #58 & #59 in the engine bay fuse box under the hood, driver side. I doubt you need ECU replacement.

Unfortunately I think I will. Only reason is I can smell electrical smell from
The ecu and the connector. Front mount is unplugged now the other will be Monday but I'll take a look at those also before I grab the ecu

Thanks for the advise

I just hoped the trouble of replacing ECU and reprogramming keys would far outweigh the simple fuse check and disconnecting 2 connectors in front of the engine. In the worst case you still will be able to replace ECU, etc. Your call, of course.
