Another 5.5gen bites the dust...

My wife was on her way home from work and Bambi and her mom decided to jump in front of the max... It was raining and she swerved and slid hitting a tree... She is ok(thank god) the max isn't, I'm 90% sure it's totaled ... Sorry for the crap cell pic I'll take more in the daylight...

I have been close to hitting many deer but as of yet been very lucky! Your wife is also lucky that she wasn't badly hurt by the looks of the car. I'd call that totaled for sure!

Glad your wife appears to be ok, and I hope she doesn't have any post event issues. I believe it's time to start shopping for another ride though.

Glad that your wife is OK. The car is definitely totaled.

I hit a small dear (maybe 125-150lbs) with my lowered AE, and it didnt even scratch my car. I had to pull some fur out of the lip though. It scared the **** out of me though and killed the deer.

Glad your wife is ok. A deer ran out in front of me around 20 years ago while I was driving my parent's '90 Nissan Pathfinder. Let's just say I didn't swerve and that's the last mistake that deer ever made. It did dent up the hood though.

Here are more pictures. I just can't believe how this car just folded.. Last picture is the trees she hit.

Sorry to see but glad to see your wife is ok.

BTW, the car is designed to fold up like it did. That is how the car sacrifices itself by absorbing the energy of the crash, leaving the passengers ok. Max saved your wife.

^^ this...

an underage unlicensed kid decided to take my car out for fun and ended up crashing into a wall on a corner. no seat belt. looks exactly like this exactly but not as worse. front end just folded up. he had no seat belt and was inexperienced. really what saved his life was the car.

this was my first max... '00

Sorry to hear what happened and i'm glad your wife is ok.

One thing I want to mention is that never, never do any trick moves trying to avoid hitting an animal. it's not worth the risk. A friend of mine is in a wheelchair for the rest of his life because he tried to avoid hitting a dog and lost control of his car and rolled it several times down an embankment.

I would have rammed the crap out of that deer!! Forget trying to avoid animals!!! I have been behind people that smashed their brakes and swerved off the road for ducks, dogs, cats, squirrels, rabbits...get the hell outta here...run them dam things over!!! Its all good I'm glad your wife is OK though.

I have way to many projects now... would be cool idea though!

And she really didn't have a choice but to hit the tree. The road she was on was a downhill curve to the left, and it was raining. When she hit the brakes she slid into it like she was on ice.

Here are a few more pictures.

Wow... so glad the wifey's ok! As much as we love our cars, they're replaceable. A long time ago, I also had a truck full of family, dark, raining, and this beatiful, copper doberman had decided to run off on his own and cross the road (downhill). It was a lifted Tacoma, and I sure as hell wasn't about to jerk the wheel or hit the brakes! It broke my heart to hit such a beautiful animal, but it was either him or take chances with the family...

I'm glad to hear that your wife is okay. It's a good thing you had that strut bar installed.

That's what I was thinking. In the way the bar bent up if it prevented energy from being transferred over to the drivers side of the car.

i have crashed 2 nissans, one i was proud of, the other basically fell apart. i hit a dog in my 4th gen, it demolished the whole front end and i was doing like 25-30 mph. but like a yr later, i was in a 99 altima and a saturn station wagon pulled out in front of me. i hit the saturn doing about 50, hit them square on the passnger b pillar. the saturn flipped over and spun down the rd on its roof, me nor my passengers were even scratched. just hard of hearing from the air bags deploying. these cars can take a hit and keep us safe, thats for sure.

but for what its worth, i also hit a possum in my denali doing about 60. didnt even scratch the truck, but it splattered the possum

wow. Glad shes ok. The part out route would definately make you some small pocket change(or future modification money). When ever your done with it a junkyard will take it and pay you a small amount for the body.

how much would they let you buy it back for? i've never had a totaled car so i was curious.

Glad she is OK... how fast was the driving when she hit the tree? Looks like the car did what it was supposed to do: safe the passengers inside and absorb the crash force...
On the opposite hand I don't believe our maxima have high crash testing to begin with...
But I am glad she was able to walk away after such a bad accident

IIRC the Maxima had 4 or 5 stars for front and rear crash tests it's the side impact you have to worry about.

BTW datsunz, submit the inspection and tire receipts into the insurance. They usually reimburse you for recent expenses like that.
