Gas Mileage
Gas Mileage
What's up fellas okay so my question here is, what's everyone's mpg looking like?
In my dash it reads 14.5 mpg. Can that be wrong? Right now I'm testing it out I filled up and I'm checking my miles, I got 180 miles and I'm on a quarter tank as of now. I haven't been driving fast since I been checking my miles, just normal driving half city half high way. Btw my maxima is a 2003 Automatic and I'm about to hit 140k miles. Look forward to some responses guys. Thanks in advance,

I drive mine hard sometimes. Fast and heavy accel. My dash reads between 22 and 26 depending on last driving style. Highest I've gotten was highway at 28 for a tank. So I'd say yours might be reading wrong or you have a issue
25 -26 highway
I travel 150 miles a day, 90% highway at 70-75 mph. I found a phone app that tracks mileage, so for the past 19,000 miles I have averaged between 25 and 26. My mpg is showing 27-28 on the dash, it always reads about 10% high. On the rare weeks I am in town and not on the highway it goes to the lower 20's.
I drive fast but not with race car starts.
'03, I-35, just crossed 195K miles.

Damn I'm seeing some high mpg's and nothing that my car is givin me. I'm almost on empty and I'm around 190 miles right now. Should I be
worried though? Anything I
can do to get a little better
mileage ?! And btw how big is our gas tanks?

My understanding is that the dash mpg thingy is not accurate. It never is for me anyway. Wife and I have two max's. I've been tracking mpg since I got them (the correct way, actual miles driven divided by gas filled). With the '00 auto, lowest was during the winter at 15.7 mpg. I'm guessing that was due to it often sitting idle to warm up. Yesterday I got 24.6, which was my best ever (about 365 miles w15 gals). The '01 manual gets 22-24 like clockwork. 21 if I drive it more aggressively. Both are driven 60/40 freeway/city or the other way around depending on the week. I put 89 in the auto, 93 in the manual.
I live in the bronx,ny and work in nyc and my daily commute is 14 miles each way, it honestly takes me about 45 minutes to drive 14 miles because the traffic is so bad on the cross bronx expressway so i drive an 03 maxima 6spd i RARELY ever reach the 6th gear.
Anyways im pretty much 100% city driving and ive been tracking my mpg's since i got it. I divide the number of miles i drive by the amount of gallons i put in, the proper way to find mpg's. My dash always says 17.XX mpg but i average 14-17 real mpg's and honestly im happy with that all day everyday traffic with the AC on all the time and since i got an injen intake i floor it from time to time to hear the intake so im good. U should reset your mpg by holding thr button in and start tracking ur miles. i just changed my plugs aswell

I've put about 7K on my AE since I got it and driving about 90% highway with some mild hyper-miling techniques I am averaging about 25-26 MPG. The 10% of city driving I do usually involves a rather heavy foot, or I'd be doing better, but I feel it's important to every once in a while pull the engine up over 6000 RPM's.

I'll let you guys know back tonight
I mostly do city driving and a little highway did the calculations yesterday and it was about 15 mpg, if its all highway get about 365 or more....I used to be strictly 205 for a tank switched fuel filter and get about 212-215, now doing that Fuel Additive thread thing for the last 3 tanks now about 217-225....not major but helping a little....
Oh yeah 02 Max, Auto 160k.

Here is some metric to mess with you! 2002 SE 6spd with 135,000kms on it. Two tanks of gas now since I bought it, first one was 11.2L/100kms and the second one with more highway was 8.1L/100kms. I am very happy with the mileage so far.
My wife's 2008 Sierra Z71 Crew Cab gets about 13-15L/100kms.

I get about 23mpg mixed city/hwy driving with my 2000 3.0L 5-speed.
If there are any pure gas pumps in your area, get that. Ethanol blended gas doesn't have the same BTU's as gas without ethanol, so your gas mileage decreases. When the federal mandate of ethanol blended gas took place, I saw a 3mpg average drop in fuel economy.

Ive not tested my MPG with highway/city yet but I did highway on a trip a couple of months ago and got 37MPG on the highway at 70MPH. Putting the snorkel on definitely helped, before that all I had was a hole =)
I just came back from a week vacation at the beach, and managed to get 453 miles out of 15.1 gallons on the way down there. That's exactly 30MPG.
That was 100% interstate, cruise control on 65mph, one passenger and trunk full of luggage...
On a normal week, going to work (my commute is a 10 miles 55mph highway with 6 traffic lights) and driving around, 30% city, 70% highway, the lowest I ever get from a full tank of gas is about 320miles (20.7MPG), and the best is around 375 miles per tank (24.5MPG), depending on how hard I push it... Oh, and I always fill it up when the gas light comes on, and it usually takes about 15.2 gallons.
14.5 MPG is very low. Is your engine check light on? Does the car feel low on power? Try to change your plugs, run a can of Seafoam through your gas tank, in the crank case and in the intake manifold to clean the internals, change your air filter, check your tire pressure, check your catalytic converters, they may be clogged (not the easiest thing to do)...

I get between 15-18 mpg in mostly city driving. I have the Autotragic box and VQDE. When this car was designed gas mileage wasn't one of the top considerations like it is for today's sedans, you gotta remember that this thing is ten years old at this point.
14.5 is low, the only way I can see that if your car is running soundly is if you are giving it lots of gas often. The VQ35/37 aren't exactly fuel friendly if you do more city driving, I usually average about 21 ish with mostly city and some hwy and slightly heavy foot, when I'm in heavy foot mode it drops to 17/18 ish.
I have never dipped under 20MPG and I have a heavy foot on just about every take off. On a good tank when I have driven a lot of hwy I can get up to 22MPG. I have my OD off though so my cruising RPM is usually about 3300
I drive my car crazy hard. Commute 60miles a day. And pull 28mpg fIgured out myself. dash says 32 I know it's wrong. I'm a mechanic and I use this stuff we have called BG products it's 44k and the three part air intake cleaner system pretty price stuff have to have a license to use it and stuff it's crazy good that's why I get 28 mpgs car went from 26 up to 28 first tank I ran with the 44k then every 10k miles I use it. I mean this ain't night advanced auto store junk this is professional grade fuel additive not everyone can sell it so if you can find it stuff is crazy good!
2 tanks now on the fuelly gauge and I'm seeing an average of 24 MPG. I am going to try to get that over 25 MPG. With some hyper-miling and the TC-W3 additive, hopefully I can get there. It's not bad mileage, but I could wish for more considering I could easily get this kind of highway MPG with my old 2005 Hemi Magnum that was twice as big and weighed another thousand pounds on top of having (with the mods I had on it) close to 380 HP and over 400 ft-lbs of torque.
