Power Steering Fluid

I am getting my high pressure power steering hose changed on my 2000 I30 and wanted to get recommendations on which brand of power steering fluid to purchase. I was told that transmission fluid would be fine, but I would rather get a specific power steering fluid.

Also, do you recommend that all be drained in order to start with new power steering fluid, and if so, how much will be needed.

Thanks.

The only thing i recommend is buy the oem nissan hose not the edelmann or gates aftermarket garbage hose. I got the edelmann and im buying the oem one in a few months i hate it.

Nissan power steering fluid will do the job if you prefer a power steering fluid. I personally use Nissan Matic D transmission fluid because its just easier to buy one item for 2 applications(my 5th gen is an auto).

I also agree with DJ on the hose choice, I have heard the aftermarket hoses will result in a whine noise due to the different dimension of the hose. If that is correct it would always sounds as if your low on fluid.

Nissan uses DEXRON type auto trans oil in the power steering. The stuff they sell under the Nissan name is Dexron. But whatever you do, DO NOT put regular power steering fluid in the car.
