Coilovers vs new struts and lowering springs
Coilovers vs new struts and lowering springs
Hey-looking for someone with more knowledge on this subject than myself. Am in need of new struts but also want to lower car somewhat. If I buy coilovers do I also need to buy strut mounts and all of the other pieces to the puzzle, or are coilovers a turnkey item? Appreciate anyones assistance on this subject and anything else that can help me make the right decision on which direction to go.

For some reason I can't copy and paste right now. My work computer is a P.O.S. Search for "definitive suspension thread" it was started by a dude named djfrestyl and it answered a ton of my questions. If reading the thread doesn't do it he checks it pretty regularly and knows his stuff so just post your question there. He can give you pros/cons of both.
depending on what type of ride comfort u want and how low u wanna go coilovers have no limit and a long range of ajdustablity. i have ksport coilovers on my 4gen and 6gen.ksport also have coilover airbags suspension which would be more comfortable.
Didn't want to ***** up your thread dj.....
Rods, I was thinking of installing that setup (Eibach/Tokico blues).... what is it about the BC's that you like better? Firmer? Softer? Drop height? You drive in snow at all?

The point IS to ***** the thread, so that all info is consolidated in one thread instead of multiple threads asking the same question over and over.
Coilovers.
Pros: Adjustable ride height and dampening. Fantastic cornering and maneuverability.
Cons: Shorter longevity. Require maintenance, cleaning, adjusting, tightening, etc. Firmer ride.
Springs/Struts.
Pros: Set and forget. Very comfortable.
Cons: Less adjustability.
Price is about the same once you factor in ancillary parts with a spring/strut setup. It's simply a matter of preference and type of driver. Do you have the time/patience/knowledge to be tinkering with your coilovers, and do you have the patience to have to deal with a rebuild inside of 30k miles? If so, then go for it. If you prefer simplicity, then spring/struts it is.

From trying multiple springs/strut set ups and coilovers, coils hands down for best balance of ride comfort and handling. This car just does not have enough suspension travel for most lowering springs but for the ones with the least amount drop. Tein SS coils were good for me because by reusing the rubber OEM top mounts, a lot of potential noise and vibration is eliminated when compared to the solid or pillowball mounts of other coils. Of course, because of that, the Teins do not come preassembled like those other ones, if that is a consideration.

Of course, there is also the discussion about suspension geometry if you go too low, but lets not get into that just yet.
