Grinding sound under light turning?

Recently, I've begun to hear a sound coming from the steering wheel every time I lightly turn the steering wheel. When making a sharp turn, the sound does not occur. I pulled apart the kickboard and the plastic covering around the steering wheel to see if there was a loose wire or something getting caught on the wheel (thats what it sounded like) but I didn't see anything out of order. Throughout the past week, I've randomly heard sounds as if something plastic is breaking? The first one was very loud, and it sounded like a rock hit the car. Today, I heard a plastic peice snap. I don't think I did anything recently that could have caused this. But, I did recently have my power steering fluid changed at a local shop. Anyone ever have this problem?

Never had that problem, but I wonder if it is the spiral cable assy that is on the steering column right behind the steering wheel. There is also something like a u-joint in the steering column, it is on the column inside the car just before it goes through the firewall.
