'00 Rough Idle

Two weeks ago I installed a NWP spacer kit, headers & y-pipe, and changed my plugs. I also cleaned my TB, MAF, IACV, and EGR tube. Car was running fine up until this point.

Now after my car warms up, the Idle drops to 600rpms, and starts shaking real bad, as if it going to cut-off. I rechecked all hoses to make sure everything was hooked up correctly. I tried to do the idle relearn but not sure if it worked. I tried searching to see if anybody else ran across this problem, but I found nothing. I wanted to put my issue out there to see if anybody had any ideas,
Thanks in advance for the help!

Also does anybody know of anywhere close to Culpeper, VA (22701) that could do a timing advance? I tried a few places but they want to charge too much.

Low idle and shaking, sounds like a bad coil to me. Unplug them one at a time and see if one of them is bad.

That is what I was thinking but wasn't for sure, I will check those out. If I had a UIM leak, would it be acting like this? Thanks

Yes, that can affect it, but since it ran fine for two weeks after the work you did on it I would lean more towards one of the ignition coil packs is going out. It hasn't completely failed yet, but if your idle is consistently rough it should be easy to find out which ignition coil it is by unplugging one by one to see if it gets worse or stays the same.

Thanks man, I will check the coils. As far as the problem, it started right after the install of the spacers and headers. The car was running fine up until I did the work on it.

Ah, I misread your post. I would check for any intake and intake manifold leaks first. Rule out everything you worked on and replaced first.

The idle learn procedure won't work unless you have various parameters met first. There is a thread on here somewhere about the idle learn procedure.

You can also check out the FSM as it has the procedure with or without the Consult II.

For the 2000 Maxima's there are two FSM's depending on your VIN number. Check this web site against your VIN and the proper FSM.

Thanks man, I will recheck everything and try to do the idle relearn.

Also I checked the coils last night and all of them were fine except Cylinder #3. I got a new one but haven't but it in yet. I will see if this helps.

Ah...change that coil first and see what happens. Hopefully that is the problem= easy fix.

So I changed the coil and problem is still there. I think it is a UIM leak, going to check it out.

Use carb/coke cleaner....spray it around where you may have a vacuum leak. When some gets sucked in the rpm will increase.

2k max rough idle stalls

Looks like my problem is resolved except for occasional stall will know after more time some problen relearning idle. Replaced spark plugs in bad shape this was causing the car to miss n shudder at apprx 5-600 rpms. Replaced Maf ,clean throttle body also. I am testing intentionally with gas the car doesnt typically like. No more stalls in traffic while moving only 1 stall sitting in parking lot only driven about 35 miles so far, will know more later. The car also runs much better. Also had a intake leak that was fixed. At the shop it idled for more than an hour no stalls.

Fixed my problem, was leaking around the EGR tube, so I deleted it all together. Now it runs fine.
