Fuel Filter replacement ISSUE! Need some advice!

Hey guys,

I hate duplicate posts as much as you do. If there is a thread somewhere that addresses my fuel filter questions, please send it to me. I looked all over the forums but I can’t find the answers anywhere.

My 2003 Maxima SE has 170k miles. I decided after reading these two threads I would attempt to change my fuel filter. http://www.shiftice.com/fuel_filter.html and http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...up-thread.html

Easy enough to make the change and the throttle response is markedly better, but I have two new problems I did not have before.

1. The car used to start immediately, but now the starter turns for 2 to 3 seconds before it starts.

2. The SES light came on and it won’t go out. I checked the code and I am getting a P0455 error – (Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected)

I checked the gas cap – it’s nice and snug. I replaced the o-ring when I replace the fuel filter. Put all six of the screws back nice and tight on the assembly. What else do I need to look at to get the damn light to go out?

Thanks!

your evap emission leeak may be due to either your new gasket not sealing properly, or the oring got pinched and isnt sealing tight.

remember the emissions system is a sealed system, any kind of breach , like a pinched or damaged oring or hose with a hole or something along those lines, will trigger a SES light. The system is meant to be a closed system, pressurized negatively, if it has a leak that pressure is increased.

Think of it as a vacuum seal tight system, any hole will cause positive pressure

Great answer^^

Time to double check everything. Probably a loose/cracked fuel hose or o-ring issue. Did you lubricate the o-ring before install? And you're 100% positive you didn't get fuel ON the o-ring, right? Any fuel on that o-ring will cause it to become instant-junk, and it'll leak. If you think for a second fuel got on it, buy another one and try again.

Thanks, guys. I haven't put the back seat back in the car yet, so I'll doublecheck everything (by starting over) and see if the problem is resolved.

Thanks again.
