Tranny Problem

The car is an 02 max. The car shifts gears without any problems. Once you get to a stop light and take off, the car will not shift out of first gear. If you pull over, put the car in park, shut it off and restart the car, it shifts and drives fine. It's annoying to have to shut the car off at every light to turn the car back on to get it to drive normally. Has anyone had this problem? What could be the cause of it?

After I come to a complete stop and try to take off, the transmission does not shift out of first gear. If I pull over to put the car in park to turn shut it off. Once I turn the car back on and put it drive, the transmission shifts fine.

got it.

1, check ATF, many tranny problem only come out from low or dirty fluid.

2, reset computer, battery disconnected for 30 min. and reconnect, wait 10 min before you first start car. let computer to reset.

3, if problem remains, check error code.

Had same problem. Replaced revolution sensor in mine as friend at Nissan (service mgr) told me to do and it fixed the problem. Not sure if this is the same problem, but sounds similar. hit gas and goes no where maybe 20 mph with high rpm. Pull over and restart and drives normal. Would happen sometime when I was slowing down or under hard acceleration too. Find link to pics below

I found the problem and fixed it after replacing a few parts.
1. The VIAS mechanism was broken as it started to rattle like a rattle snake. I had a BOP around so I used it to fix that problem for good.
2. The proper amount of ATF was added and checked to make sure the amount was sufficient.
3. The two revolution/speed sensors were replaced with OEM units from a local dealership. But, the problem was still there. So, I decided to swap the two sensor connectors, although I was certain that I did not mix the two connectors. It worked, the car drove fine afterwards. The transmission shifts extremely smooth now. The thourough flush was much needed.
