Is it possible to need to replace MAF sensor twice?

I've had my 2000 Maxima for about 8 1/2 months, and I've had to replace various parts, including the MAF sensor. My car just shut off one day back in April when I was idling at a light and about to accelerate, and I barely made it home before it cut off again. It was so bad that when I tried to pull it out of my underground garage, it cut off and started to roll backwards. It would start if I left it alone for a few minutes, but would cut off minutes later. Then while I was driving home yesterday, it randomly cut off on the freeway. I tried to restart it and it wouldn't start, but by the time it got towed to my mechanic about an hour later it would start but he said it wasn't running well. As well, when it first started up it sounded kind of like marbles were in the engine, but once it was on the sound went away. I'm just wondering, is it possible to need to replace my MAF sensor so soon, even though it was just fixed 6 months ago? My car has the same symptoms as it did the first time, and I'm hoping it's the MAF because it's under warranty. If not, is there any other guess of what it could be? I'm just terrified that it's something serious that could require an engine rebuild, so I'm trying to brace myself and gather some info before I hear from my mechanic on Monday. Thank you for any help!

Does it stall while you're accelerating? Is your SES light on?

Relax, its not an engine rebuild.

Sounds like a fuel pump based on your wildly technical description. Bad MAF sensors do not usually make the car die.

Post up your results on Monday!

Check your wires/ground wires in the bay.. i was having same problem with my car it would turn off on me at random times with no codes coming up changed the Maf twice i finally found a great mechanic that found the problem which was a wire going from the Alternator to the ecu that was messed up and was causing the ecu to send out wrong singles which would cut off my gas / no power to the car which would shut off the car on me while i was driving and if not that then check out your fuel pump
