OEM stereo power/volume **** fix ?

Is it a common problem and is there a fix for the power/volume **** on the factory BOSE stereo ? You have to really punch the **** for power on/off and slighlty pull it out to adjust volume. I figure its just dirty contacts, but dont know if its accessible. I havent found any stickies or threads on the subject.

Never heard of this problem before. I don't think it's common.

Probably pick one up cheap. I'm sure somebody is selling one in the electronics classifieds. Tons of people yank those things shortly after purchasing, especially younger owners. Hell, I've got a non Bose in my closet.

I had this issue with mine in the I30. The soldering points for the **** where broken. I resoldered them but to be honest I hAve not tried it since then as I changed head unit before I could. It is a known problem for the ***** to give problems.

Same problem here...I've found that I can only get the volume **** to work if I push up (towards the roof) or down (towards the floor) when turning the ****. Additionally, the radio controls on the steering wheel have to be pushed in some unknown precise direction to get them to work. For whatever reason, these problems are much worse when it is cold outside. Very annoying.

Im having the same problem. Sometimes, not to often, the radio will change the radio station by its self.

You can try to blow some compressed air around the button just in case its just dirty. If you think its a bad connection the just take it apart and re-solder, Its accessible.

I think i read somewhere that the trick was to tighten before you loosen or something like that. When I took them out I used the biggest head that would fit in there and put pressure down on them.

They are real tight but not locktight, use a power drill and push down with lots of force and it will come right out.
