The motor is the same, only difference is the transmission that's all. Now go and enjoy your car.

Since when. Only thing that has to be taken off is the auto transmission since it's being bolted with a manual transmission. 2000 and 2001 is the same car. Nothing has to be switched.

If the emissions are different he will have to switch over a couple items, nothing major though. All 2000 models aren't cali spec like the 2001's.

Honestly, I don't know much about the emissions specs but from my understanding wouldn't it be based on ECM, exhaust and o2 sensors? If you were swapping the engine you would keep the same ECM, exhaust and o2s so there shouldn't be anything you need to change to put a 2001 motor into a 2000 regardless of which spec it is.

One slight different is on the intake manifold with the "swirl control valve" that is required on 2000 cali emissions.

If they are both cali spec, your are right nothing would need to be changed over(exhaust and O2's stay in place regardless because he is going from 2001 into a 2000). If the 2000 is a fed with the 01 being cali, the upper intake has an extra sensor(Swirl Control Valve Sensor) that wouldn't need to be there. I don't even think the fed specs have the harness connector for it. Like I said that its nothing major. He could swap intakes or plug that hole for the sensor. I'd swap intakes because its easy to do, especially when the engine isn't in the car(backpain for the tall guys lol). I'm not trying to be picky I just think the OP should be informed.

Cali spec and Fed spec have different emissions setups. I don't know all the tid-bit specifics, but rest assured mixing the two would create some headache.

Basically just find out if you have a FED spec or Cali spec. If you have a FED spec then you may have some minor headaches to toggle through.

Less info, creates headaches period. At least if the OP said what the spec is, it would be easy. But to put will the engine work in this year, isn't helping at all.

Lower Intake Manifold is different. The 2001 also does not have the EGR. It is blocked off. Get to play with some sensors. To keep it out of limp mode you will have to keep the egr stuff plugged in. You will throw codes but will not go into limp mode. And as stated the upper intake manifold is also different! Have fun!
