headlight problem

Hello everyone, I am new to the site and new to owning a Maxima as well. I bought the car a week ago(2003 GLE) and when I got it home I realized the drivers side headlight(dim) was out. As a note, this is my first experience with HID lights so sorry if I come across as completely clueless! Thinking it was no big deal I went to Autozone to buy another. The guy at the counter told me to try putting the light in the passenger side because it was more likely a ballast than the $100 HID bulb. I put it in the passenger side like he said and it worked. Thinking maybe it was something simple, I tried checking the fuses, they all looked good, but when I put them back in I now have no low beams on either side. Triwd swapping the bulbs back and still no lights. High beams and DRL both work fine. I replaced the fuses with new ones just in case but still nothing. Any ideas? Would a bad relay knock out high beams as well as low? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can only drive my car during the day in it's current condition and I don't really just want to throw money at it blindly and hope for the best.

Had an issue with my bulbs in the past. One side went out, replaced both bulbs then one side wouldnt work. Switched the bulbs around and sometimes they would work and sometimes they wouldnt. Now they both work fine. Have no clue what the issue was. I recommend changing both bulbs and giving it time to see if they both work correctly. Dont pay $100 for those bulbs thats ridiculous. I got a pair off ebay for $20 they are brighter and I have had no problems with them.

1st, sounds like your ballast is out, get a used oem ballast for a cheaper fix or a quality aftermarket one if you prefer.

as far as low beams, did you make sure you re-installed the fuses in the correct spots?
