blower motor might be dead

My gf has an 03 gle her defrost isn't working in fact there isn't any air coming through the vents on any setting. I'm guessing the motor is blown and needs to be replaced. My question is what the best place to buy it at? Should ido the resistor and cabin filter as well? And any advice would be helpful even though the write up I read seemed pretty straight forward.

If the defrost crapped out, along with the heater blower, I would suggest looking at fuses before throwing parts at it

Check the FSM, HA section and check the fuses. Seems to be the fuse box to the right of the battery. The blower motor relay is behind the glove box.

Yes...check the easy stuff first. Also, do a search on here. There is a part called the blower amp or resistor which can give you the same symptom you experience. If that goes out, then you won't get anything to the blower and it usually fails before the blower. A lot of people have had a problem with it.

First we need to know if the car has auto climate control or manual.

Manual climate control uses a "blower motor resistor". If the resistor goes bad, the fan will still run on high speed, but all the other speeds are dead. No fan at all is a bad fan motor (very likely) or a bad switch in the dash (highly unlikely). If the fuses are blowing, the fan motor is bad.

Auto climate control uses a "fan control amplifier". If the amplifier goes bad, the blower motor could run at high speed and you can't shut it off or the fan does not run at all. Since your fan doesn't run at all, the switch in the dash could be bad (1% possibility), the fan control amplifier could be bad (55% possibility) or the fan motor could be bad (44% possibility. If the fuses are blowing, the fan motor is bad.

This...

I have auto climate control and my fan quit working no matter what fan speed setting I put it on. I replaced the fan control amplifier and it fixed the problem.

The fan control amplifier is located next to the blower motor behind the glove box. Remove the glove box and it's right there and easy to get to.

It's very unlikely the two are related. That's probably just a loose or burned out bulb.

I believe it only lights up as you described so you can "find the hole" when it's night time. Mine goes out when I start the car.

That's what my problem was. Considering the age of my car (2000 with 180K miles) and the fact that the A/C is being used about 8-9 months out of the year here in hot and humid Florida, it lasted a long time. I was able to pick one up from one of my local dealers that had it in stock.

You had enough room to get behind the glove box to remove the amplifier? Damn I wish I knew that to save myself some time.
