Knock noise from rear

When I go over bumps, I notice as soon as the front of the car hits a bump or drops in a pot hole the rear passenger side sometimes gives a knock sound.

What could it be ?

you have anything loose in your trunk? that's were the tire jack is located check and make sure that its tight and flopping around... if everything is tight then suspension work in your near future....

Could be the muffler or some other part of the exhaust system.

Thanks. It sounds like the rear suspension however I jumped up and down in the rear of the car from each side and no sound at all.

I checked the jack its secured however the other accessories was not so I wrapped it and stuck in a location that won't make noise.

Going to see tonight if the noise goes away.

I have to change the shocks on the Max anyways, just haven't done it as I don't know if I will be keeping the car after this winter (its my winter beater).

No I have front pads and rotors waiting, will probably tackle it this weekend and bleed the entire brake system. Will see if anything is a muck in the rear.

The sound does seem to be coming from the rear passenger side but only notice the sound coming when the front driver side end of the car hits a bump.

Could it be endlinks ?

That's what mine was. I had new rubber hangers put on when I had the resonator deleted and some patch work done to get rid of an exhaust leak.

I have that problem. It's the heatsheild on the cat converter. I had a shop weld it back on, but it's still raddling and I'm just waiting for it to fall off at this point.

if your car has high miles, it can be the rear bushings on the rear beam.

replace rear struts first and see if knocking noise goes away or not.

Before he goes that route (with rear strut replacement) i'd check the exhaust first.

I have over 180K miles on my car, including a few years spent up north from the previous owner, and I don't have any problems with my rear beam bushings. However, it wouldn't hurt to check it anyways.

I say start with the more common issues first and then work your way down the list.

^^^This. My bro had this same issue that was driving him nuts and he had his suspension check, removed his sound system, check is strut mounts and the mechanic couldn't find the issue. Took it to another mechanic to find out all the work he did wasn't the issue, it was the exhaust.

Not only check the jack but did you check underneath the jack where the wheel wrench is? I had a knocking from rear passenger and it was that wrench knocking against the body.

I just dealt with the same thing. Turns out that the exhaust hanger near where the rear differential would be if it were RWD had broken free, and the exhaust was swinging back and forth. A quick weld job at Meineke fixed that up

I think it was the exhaust. Today was a good day so I took off the wheel and pushed the exhaust and it was definatelly banging against something. Mine however did not fall of the hanger, I just adjusted so it sat more towards the passenger side and now the knocking sound is gone!

I'm happy, cheap fix. I was soo happy I gave the Max a good vacuum, clean up and and stuffed some sound reflecting sponge type material around the sub enclosure to see if the bass rattle gets fixed (I think this may be fixed too!)
