GLE Tail Light Question
GLE Tail Light Question
Hey guys,
Been a while since I've posted here, but had some bad luck with my car the other day. The rear driver side tail light got cracked!
I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what this part is called. It's not technically the light, but the clear plastic covering that is cracked, as you can see in this photo:

I'm looking on Courtesy Nissan parts section and I think it's part number 78143 found on this page. However, I'm not 100% sure if it would be the correct item.
Does anyone know if this includes the lights, or is it just the clear plastic?
Also, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being hardest), how difficult would this replacement be to tackle on my own?
Thanks!

change the whole thing i dont think they just sell the cover if they did and u didnt reseal correctly itll get condensation. look in classifieds and get yourself some tails with harnesses. your car would look good with the 00-01 gle tail lights direct fit. i changed my 03 maxima to 00-01 se tails.
I agree with MaxFixya. You can't get just that piece that broke, you need to replace the whole assembly. Check a junkyard or the parts for sale section of Maxima.org. You will also need to get some sealer so that water won't leak in between the taillight assembly and the body.
There are all red, the clear and smoked black tailights. I think that the clear that you have goes best with the color of your car.

dude that part number is actually a part of you car body... its the metal trim that the taillight attaches to...
Just get a used OEM tailight and move on... thanksgiving is just around around the corner... use your oven to cook the turkey and not bake open taillights or headlight lol lol

I'll just keep an eye on the classifieds than it looks like. For now, I've put a couple pieces of tape over the hole until I can find a replacement.
Also, I washed the car just now.. had to after seeing this picture.

I'm finally about to replace the light, the tape has been working well the past few months lol. I may be getting a couple 2000 SE tail lights to replace mine with. However, I have a few concerns.
People saying you need the harness with the 2000 SE tails, I take it this means whoever I get the lights from needs to just unplug the whole unit from the car (including the harness) and then I can just plug it into where my old ones were. Is that correct? Just plug and play?
Someone on another thread mentioned that you would need colored bulbs for the signals, what does that mean? If I just get the entire tail light unit from the seller, wouldn't I just be able to plug it in and be good?

the wire harness should come with it its the wires and **** if you dont see it when u get it dont buy it unless its a good deal. and the bulb i forget but i know the clear bulbs can make red light also. no need to worry

and the signal light shouldn't be an issue? Just want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head here.
basically with all those wires connected to it with those plugs and the bulbs dont worry bro some are clear and even put out red or you can get the orange ones i believe the clears put out more light if im correct. plus u might get bulbs with the tail lights never know
Cool thanks for replying man. Gonna be a little project for me.
