6 speed + amsoil = cold scrapes/grinds?

Hello.
Has anyone here have any problems with gears grinding/scraping in cold weather with amsoil GL4?

My 6 speed scrapes/grinds into second gear only when its really cold outside and the car hasn't warmed up yet. I usually just double clutch to avoid damage to the syncros. I have amsoil GL4 in the gear box topped off at the correct level. PS: never have any scrapes/grinds when the car is warmed up. would too much gear oil to blame for this? I might have like .3 quarts more in there than required....

Anyone having similar issues?
Thanks.

If you can find it, use GM Synchromesh Friction Modified (has to be Friction modified). That fluid is awesome and does wonders on 1000's of Honda/Acura manual gear boxes.

Pretty sure GM syncromesh has GL5 additives which are bad for our syncros. Ive read it here on forums somewhere, might be a thread in fluids section.

I have the same issue on the same fluid - swapped about 13k and 1.5 years ago.

I may be imagining it, but I feel like it has gotten better. It's been as low as 30 degrees recently with no grinding. Maybe the fluid has "broken in?"

I will have to wait til colder temps to be sure. (hope I didnt just jynx it)

It's GL4. If it works in a Honda/Acura it will work in your Maxima.

Honda requires GL5. We require GL4
Id like your citations on this information GM syncromesh not having traces of GL5 additives.

Just as an update. My cold grinds seem to went away when i replaced the clutch pedal assembly. They're known to go bad in 6gens, the pin hole which connects the master cylinder and the pedal was carved out by the pin so the clutch was not pressed in all the way in. When i replaced it with a new one, problem disappeared.
