pretty much I have the same very slight oil leak in my 2000 5 speed, I can see a couple of drops of oil on the connection between the tranny and the engine, but i will have an answer to this leak when I replace my clutch. At 200K I am still in the OEM original clutch and seals... in the next couple of months I am getting ready to drop the tranny and see where the leak is coming from.... 99% sure it will be the rear main seal, but again my maxi has 200K on it... I can see just a few drops between the engine and the tranny, but after 10K on each oil change I pretty much don't have any oil missing... I am pretty sure its just the rear main getting tired, but again i will have an answer once I drop the tranny...

it's either rear main seal or input shaft seal.

From what I've seen it is very rare for the rear main seal to go bad. More than likely it is the half moon seal on the back of the upper oil pan. I thought my rear main was bad as well but once I had it apart it turned out to be the oil pan. I was replacing the clutch at the time so I went ahead and replaced the rear main and half moon seals on the oil pan with new RTV. Haven't had any problems since.

Checked the input shaft? Rear main?

Where is the upper oil pan??? I've shown 2 mechanics and they both said rear main seal. I will just buy both parts (rear main and half moon seals) just to be safe. It def is a super sloooooooow leak.

Rear main is below the upper oil pan seal...this leaks onto the rms and ppl think the rms is to blame

the upper oil pan is that big part that the lower oil pan bolts to. The lower oil pan is the smaller black pan that most people would simply refer to as the oil pan

How hard is the upper oil pan to get to? I have the same type of leak and was told by my mechanic that is was the rear main seal. He also said he would have to take out the transmission to get to it, $400. Expensive or fair price? If it's something that I don't have to mess with the transmission, I'd like to do it myself.

Before you start tearing into a RMS fix, have a good look at your rear bank cam cover gasket.

I sent my VQ30 to the shop for a RMS to find that, although the RMS was in fact seeping, it was quite overshadowed by a rear bank cam cover gasket full-on friggin leak.
