Just replace them with some 5.5 gen ebay specials. You'll save money that way and they'll look fine.

Yea wiring is different and headlamps might look funky.

Wait wait, are we talking about the same thing? The ebay 5.5's should have the same sockets for the same HID lows and halogen highs. One should not need to cut and splice any wires. You'd only have to do that if you put 5th gen lights in your 5.5. And then they wouldn't fit properly because their shape is slightly different than a 5.5 gen headlight.

Just buy something like this and you'll be fine:

there would be 2 bulbs that aren't used. The 00-01 have a single bulb for hi/low beams and one for the parking/turn signal light. Correct me if I'm wrong but the 5th gens have a 9003 headlight and I believe 5.5's use 9005. So I think it's more of a hassle to find 00-01 harness than to just replace the type headlamps you have.

the ebay for the 02/03 will work.

if you get the 2000/2001 you will need the 2000/2001 lower clip that holds the bottom of the headlight, and you'll need to follow this guide in reverse to wire it:

I did this on my 02, because the previous owner removed the factory HID's and installed factory 00-01 lights. It's a bit of a pain and the outcome is less than desirable. Light projection is the worst thing I can say about them. They don't look TOO terrible, but overall I wish I had spent the extra money and bought HID's. There are a few listings in the classifieds for some factory HID's. I highly recommend it.

Here's a few pictures:

That last one is blurry iPhone pic. Those are the low-beams and you can see that the lights spreads WAY too much. If you have questions about wiring let me know and I can guide you through it, but again, I wouldn't do it if I were you.

^^This. I would look for a set of oem's in the classifieds or get a set of depo oem replicas off eBay, and get 5.5's, the money you're gonna save getting 5th gens isn't gonna be worth the hassle and improper fit.

YES THEY DO! You can see it in the picture I posted. It's not pretty. It just looks tacky and doesn't look clean at all. Like I said, I greatly regret not getting OEM HID's.

They will plug right in although I'm not sure if you would have to tap in the angel eyes to the parking lights or something. Not a fan of angel eyes so I never got headlights with them. But everything else will be plug and play.

You don't have to get them with the angel eyes. Search around and also be prepared for bad light output too. I had that issue with some aftermarket housings...

This guy has factory headlights for an 02/03 with the bulb and ballast individually for a 125 bid or 175 BIN price. Seems like if you could get both for 250 that would be pretty cheap there:

You will always see that ugly cheap looking angel-eye rim around the light even when it's off. It's disgusting.

That's always an option haha I've been in that situation and it's worth it. Even though I only jumped 2 years newer, I jumped down about 140k miles. Good luck!

Good find! I would love to buy these right now I'm looking to do the 5.5 front end conversion and those are the best prices I've seen.

I agree 100%. We don't drive Bimmers. Personally that is the only car I would ever drive that has halos. But that's just me.

Yea, I didn't hook up the angel eyes on mine, but they still look awful, and yes, the light output is horrendous, the light projection is even worse. I cannot stress enough how terrible those lights are and how disappointed you will be if you decide to buy them.

Eventually, I might pull them apart and remove the angel eyes, but I will definitely be going back to the factory HID's. Oh and I got my lights for $160 for the pair off of Amazon. I'll find the link to the exact seller if you want. Let me know.

What are junkyards charging for them?

Maybe OK is the problem (few imports?), but you should be able to find someone with a wrecked 5.5 locally. It is a pretty big city...
