That pesky screen in the master cylinder

Hi all,

I'm about to change out the brake fluid in my 02 I35, but can't seem to get that screen off in the master cylinder. According to the service manual, it is a tiny little thing. Albeit I didn't spend much time in my attempt but what's the easiest way to remove it?

Thanks for the help with this rather amateurish question

Why do you want to take the screen out? I don't think it is designed to be removed and may be holding the float in.

Before I begin bleeding the brakes, I want to remove all the old fluid in the master cylinder. I'll then fill it up with new fluid so all the old crap doesn't go through the lines when bleeding. The screen needs to get out of the way first so I can pump out the master cylinder.

Don't take the screen out...unnecessary. The old brake fluid going through your lines will not hurt anything. Just make sure you flush enough new fluid through. It is very easy to see the difference between old and new fluid in your lines as you bleed them.

Trust me...I've done this more times than I can count on numerous vehicles. It will take about 2 bottles of brake fluid total on your Maxima. If you want to be safe get three bottles and save the receipt. Return any unopened bottle of brake fluid.
