cattman setup and p0430

'01 AE manual 90xxx miles. Has cattman headers, ypipe, fast cat.... full setup. P0430 came on, cleared it, fine for another couple hundred miles. Came on again, rinse, repeat.... every time it gets cleared it comes back faster, now after only 15 miles so I gave up and just left it on. Car runs and drives fine. No rough idle, rough starting, or stalling, lugging, etc...

I've searched plenty and all the threads I can find are about stock setups, not cattman setups. Most threads say replace cat, replace o2 sensors, or get an o2 sim.

Assuming I don't want to go with an o2 sim just yet, do I have any other options to fix the code besides going down the path of replacing o2 sensors?

I believe P0420 and P0430 are precat "efficiency" codes. Since you removed them your'e gonna need o2 sims like CMax said. Buy the "dual" version.

the AEs are cali spec so the rear sensors need to show a difference in emissions from the fronts...which is where the sims or antifoulers come in.

Search that O2 Sim is available on Mitsubishi sites; Single if you have one monitor sensor, or dual sim if you have two monitor sensors.....it's easy to install....

maybe a busted knuckle from retrieving a previously dropped engine cover screw...

Search the forum for a great "dual o2 sim" write up- the install post is very helpful and straightforward. I forget the author of the post(props to him), but it is an excellent resource.

Well I bought the o2 sims and two foulers but never got around to installing them... had a super busy year and didn't mind the SES light after a while haha. Now that I'm finally getting around to this, can I bother you guys for a bit more advice?

I want to try the foulers first. Since the p430 code is a pre-cat issue, should I be installing the foulers on the cattman header bungs? (to avoid the p420 code too) Or should I install them on the secondary bungs? Or buy two more and put on all four bungs?

Fyi my secondaries are bung'd in here:

Install the foulers on the secondary bungs to pull the o2 sensors further out from the exhaust stream. It tricks it into thinking the cat is there cleaning up the exhaust. Then clear the code(s) and you are golden.

Are you running resistors in line to keep the ses off?
