This will be written off as totaled. You can buy it back and part it out which will make you more money than what they will offer you in the long run but it will require your personal time and time to get the buyers to entirely part the car out.

It all depends on how you value your time, either let the insurance company pay out or just buy it back and part out. I don't see it viable to fix the car along with your engine oil burning issues, it seems illogical.

You have the perfect opportunity to move on to another car, take the shot and go for something like infinity ect. I know i would move on if i had the chance from my 6th gen...

There are pictures of the car im parting out in the mall, ill bump my sale ad so you can look at the pictures. the wheel well on the car is rusted out so i couldnt sell that to you.

where in virginia are you located, maybe i can work something out with delivery if you decide to repair it, my wife has family in virginia beach area, and a neighbors son lives in manassas (cant spell) up near DC, and he travels here a couple times a month.

One perspective:

If you were going to sell your car, could you ever get anywhere near 6500? (or whatever the average is by comparison)

IMO, if you have been handed the opportunity to sell your car for more than it would sell for normally, you should definitely consider selling it.

You can get one very nice replacement car for 6500, pitch in another 2k and you can have something way better.

As mentioned you can get away with pulling a lot off the car and selling it on here. Hit the junk y yard and get replacement items and turn some profit if you are ambitious enough

Scary to think that's enough damage to total our cars. They should give you more then $3k though, they offed me $5k for my 2002 which was totaled a couple weeks ago.

my car is also KT3, i can have the parts you need off in 30-40 minutes if you decide you want to fix it, my parts car is also from bluefield, the guy who owned it must have worked in glen lyn at a car audio shop in that area, i had the name at one point but i forgot it, but its not far from bluefield, like 8 miles, its approx. 1 hour and 45 minutes from my home to bluefield (sheetz gas station) i was in bluefield last week working on something at the state police detachment.

let me know if you want this stuff once you figure some stuff out, i dont plan on keeping the car forever, but probably another week or two atleast, i do plan on pulling the doors off though, no need to crush perfectly good doors, the engine/trans is already out so the inner tie rod shouldnt be a problem, i can probably give you the entire steering rack if you think it could have damage.

BTW if you decide you DONT want to fix your car, and want another maxima owner to buy it, let me know what it is, auto, stick, options? HLSD if stick? even if they total it out you can always get it back for a few hundred and maybe sell it to me and make another few hundred.

It is a 6mt with HLSD. It's the Titanium Edition and Meridian Edition, meaning it has all the options (power heated seats, heated steering wheel and mirrors, auto-dim rear view mirror with compass, Bose 6 CD audio system, auto climate control, sun roof, all options except navigation). You can see what I have added to the car in my signature.

The body shop came and picked it up yesterday. She's going to the hospital...

Cole Nissan will take care of it. I called them yesterday before they closed and the guy told me he wasn't finished doing the estimating yet. So far he only looked at body damage, and told me it had not reached the threshold yet to be declared a total loss. He still had to look at suspension and steering to see what else needed replacement... Here are a few pics of her before the accident...

If it she end up being totaled, this will be her replacement... 2007 335i 6mt with premium package, sport package, and cold weather package. 56k miles, $19,995

You own the holy grail of the 5.5 gens. Hopefully it can get fixed. Good thing about the rear suspension is that the beam axle and related parts for these cars are relatively inexpensive. They are readily available at many salvage yards across the country, and the labor rates to R&R are low, too. Don't give up hope yet.

When my SVT Focus was totaled, I was real close to the threshold. Allstate told me it was up to me if I wanted to total it or fix it. If I did fix it and it went over the "cliff" in repair costs, I would be responsible for the additional costs over what they would pay. Unfortunately, I was undergoing financial and roommate problems (them not paying their share of the bills on time) and in the process of moving because of said roommates, so I made the choice to total it. It was a great car, and one of the best cars i've ever owned, so it was a tough choice to make. So if it gets close to being totaled, and you want to keep the car, your insurance company should give you the option that I had.

tell the body shop that ill sell the parts alot cheaper than most yards, it should help keep cost's down, or maybe keep some of the cash for the repairs in your pocket, atleast my parts are in the right color too, id much rather them goto use that sit in my storage building.

matthew

BTW my 02 model has all the same options except HLSD and titanium edition, mines a 02 in the pearl white with tan interior, all the same options.

My mom had similar damage on her 09 Buick Enclave, and I replaced the fender and front bumper myself, and I took the car to get painted, and to have the 1/4 panel damage taken care of. They charged me $200 for painting the bumper and fender, and another $450 to fix the 1/4 panel damage. It was damaged almost that badly too. I know the guys at that shop pretty well, so they usually cut me a good price, but I don't see how that rear 1/4 damage would cost more than $1,000-1,200 at normal price.

Damn Giz, I didn't know you had a T.E., let alone a 6MT with Meridian package.

That's nuts, can you even find a comparable? those are super rare, I'm not sure the insurance company can even properly estimate the price.

I'm not a fan of those bimmers. But I seem to be a majority in that opinion. They just don't do anything for me.

Hope it all works out. Even with that trim level and 6MT, you have to ask yourself if it's worth keeping, depending on the potential pay-out. But the good news is you can probably get even more money than anyone expected due to the option package and rarity.

You do bring up a good point. Those options will need to be brought to the insurance adjuster's attention, because they probably won't be aware of the rarity which would reflect on the price.

My 2000 SE is pearl white/black leather with the Meridian package (side impact air bags, heated side mirrors, etc) and I also have heated seats. Afaik, the only option I don't have is the VLSD.

I'm also not a fan of those particular BMW's. If it's available with a full pre-owned factory BMW certified warranty, then I'd consider it, if I were in the market to buy such a car.

Macantley, PM me your contact information. I'll forward it to Cole Nissan so they can contact you for replacement parts.

About that 335i, to each his own. I love the lines, and also how fast this thing is...

Also, for less than $500, the ECU can be modified to increase the pressure of the turbos, the timing etc... and add almost 100hp. It's called the Juice Box 4 (JB4). See video below... highway pulls on the autobahn between a 550i and a 335i (with and without the JB4)...

If you do get that car, set aside a few grand for BMW's temperamental tendencies. If you mod it say goodbye to your certified pre-owned warranty (if you have one) because BMW is **** about mods. If you have the money and you don't mind the extra maintenance costs, then go for it.

Bought the Megan in April 2011 for $350. I put 40,000 miles on the catback.

If the car is totaled, I would let the catback go for $200 + shipping, problem is I live in an apartment, and don't have a place to keep the car while parting it out...

I could always buy the car back, and whatever I pay the insurance to buy it back, I'd sell it for $500 or $750 more than what I paid for, depending on what it cost me... I'll let the buyer arrange pick up/shipping.

Note that the car has the following added to it:

- NWP engineering 5 piece spacer ~ $150 (estimated resale value)
- NWP block off plate ~ $20
- Eibach springs with KYB GR2 struts (30,000 miles on the set) - $250
- Megan OE-RS catback (40,000 miles on it) - $200
- Injen Intake ~ $160
- OTTO Racing FSTB ~ $20
- Stillen Rear Sway Bar ~ $120

That's over $900 in aftermarket parts that could be sold for cash...

Email from the body shop...

Update: Just called Erie to let them know I am close to the threshold for a “total loss”. They have to send an adjuster to write the estimate when it is within a certain percentage of the value of the vehicle. It doesn’t mean they will automatically total it; it is just that they have to make that decision before we can proceed with repairs.
We will keep you informed when they decide.
Have a great day.
Rod

Well, the insurance totaled the car... Body shop was adding the cost of all the parts/labor to do the repair and reached the threshold of $5200 (75% of the value of the car)... Damn, that's a high estimate!
