Totaled or not?

This is the body shop estimate. I spoke on the phone with the insurance guy who told me his number may vary from the body shop number. I made sure I listed ALL the options and told him it's a rare model.
He told me I'll be able to remove aftermarket parts and restore to stock. I'll probably remove the intake, BOB, rear sway bar, FSTB... I can't remove the exhaust, unless I buy the car back...

NEVER TAKE THEIR FIRST OFFER! They will low ball you.
And I'd buy the car back anyway. If you plan on buying another 5.5 you can always use the spare parts. And if you don't then you can sell the whole thing for more than you'll have to pay for it. I'm sure there's plenty on here that would love to have her.

I know, I'm going to negotiate, and hopefully get at least $5k for it. $6k would be great, but I seriously doubt it...

About 3 years ago my friend John had a 99 4th gen fully loaded a guy ran a red light and hit him head on while he was trying to make a turn their insurance company wanted to pay him 500 for the car he ended up settling for 1400 after fighting with the insurance company for 4 months the sad part is he only had the car 3 weeks and paid 3200

I'm driving in a Toyota Corolla rental for now I miss my Maxima so bad...
#91
def. buy it back, ill pull the door you need off my parts car and sell the parts to you super cheap, slap them on the car and drive it until your "perfect car in your price range" shows up, you may have to pay them $500-1000 to buy it back, salvage inspections are easy (gotta do one next monday) just pound the quarter panel wheel well back alittle to make sure the tire doesnt rub and just drive it for now.

I would buy back, if its for a cheap price slap on a fender and door, and get a shop to fix the damage by the door....Good Luck and I know you hate the Corollas performance but I bet you love that MPG...
#93
And atleast you can drive a rental. Because I'm under 25 I'm not legally allowed to rent a car .

No $hit! I timed a 0-60 yesterday... 9 sec... but at the same time, I've averaged 29.5 mpg driving town, and highway for the last 4 days and I don't drive slow either...

Here are a few ones I could use as a reference to get a good check from my insurance... Okay, they're all a little pricey, but looks like the market price is around $6k to $8k... and most of these have less options than mine...

Car is totaled, insurance offered me $6,750 and I took it.
I am going to remove the Injen CAI, the FSTB, BOP and the Stillen rear sway bar. They'll be on the classified section soon. Some of you asked for other parts that I am not sure I can remove from the car, such as the door sill plates, heated seats switch etc...
It's been a pleasure exchanging info with all of you on the .org. I hope the BMW forums are half as good as the org. Everyone has been very helpful, tons of invaluable information on here that saved me tons of money over the course of a few years of ownership of an absolutely fabulous 5.5gen. I will truly miss this car!
It is with great sadness that I am leaving this community...
I'll be back here from time to time, and update you on what my new ride is when I find one...

You guys need better insurance.
My buddy had his 02 base SE totaled from hail (small dents) with ~180k on it. It was only in fair condition with rust starting and clear peeling on the bumper (respray I guess).
He received over 6k (6700 I think) LOL. Then, he got over another thousand when someone lost some boards on the interstate (no damage that you could see).
He has State Farm.

$1500 is slightly high for a buy back, but still not bad, i would have jumped on it, i just pulled the door off my parts car today, im hoping your car goes to copart salvage auctions (who's your insurance company?) so i have the door and fender off already in the right colors, if you decide to buy it back, ill let you have them for $150 just so i know its getting some use soon. if not im going to be watching the auctions. my parts car is getting crushed soon too, its pretty well stripped down already, still gotta remove the dash clock, and the other rear door, then its outta here.

BTW this is the worst time of the year to buy a car, prices are always jacked up for everyone who's getting income taxes back right now, november-december is always the best months, everyone needs christmas cash.
what parts are you removing from the car?
also if you can, pull the fuse out of the positive battery line so the car wont start, they sell alot cheaper at auction if they wont start, i know thats something the wrecker/auction yard will probably notice and just put the 120A fuse back in, but you never know, normally they are 300-400 bucks cheaper if they dont guarantee that it runs/drives, or even better, remove the ignition sense wire from the starter, or starter positive wire, i guess unplugging the coil packs would work too, im sneaky like that.

BTW, I'll also try to remove my NWP spacers (I got the 5 piece, but I won't remove the lower intake manifold, so all I'll have for sale will be the 3 piece). If anyone is interested? I can imagine the RTV will be very sticky, and may cause problems... Any tips on removing it?

i dont have any suggestions on that for you, What insurance company did you use? each one will send cars to different auction sites, you can PM me that info if you dont want it out on open forum. I can change the door on the car out in about 15-20 minutes, the fender would take about an hour, maybe hour and a half.

Ok, I finally got the settlement check and picked up this baby in Knoxville, TN, at Eurpoean Auto Garage. You should see this place, my dream garage... they had Ferraris, Bentleys, Porsches, Aston Martins, BMWs, Mercedes... new and older models, and their shop was spotless. These guys were great. The place is about 3.5 hours from where I live, and they were more than willing to help me through the phone and email, sending me all the info I asked about the car, answering all my questions and believe me, I ask a lot of questions... When I got there, no deception, the car was exactly as described...
The car: 2008 BMW 335i coupe, 6 speed MT. It has the sport package and cold weather package, 67,000 miles, and has 1yr/30,000 miles BMW CPO warranty. Tires have 3000 mi. on them and brakes have 5000 miles
The car is amazing to drive... Germans really know how to make cars, everything inside is assembled perfectly. There is no play anywhere, everything feels really tight, all the materials are solid, and soft to the touch. It's very pleasant to sit inside this car, very quiet to drive, unlike my Maxima with the Megan catback I wish it was just a bit louder, to make the driving experience even more enjoyable...
The driving experience... now I know why BMW's slogan is "the ultimate driving machine". With a twin turbo 3.0L inline six that develops 300hp and 300lb.ft. of torque spreading between 1400rpm and 5000rpm, the needle on the speedo climbs up in the triple digits zone VERY quickly...and put a big smile on my face at the same time It's so quiet and comfortable that on the way back from Tennessee, by lack of attention, I caught myself doing over 90mph on several occasions where it felt like I was going 75mph...
I was hesitating between the 335i and the G37 for my next purchase... didn't get to test drive a G37, and I wish I could have because they are very comparable cars, while still being very different. From looking at this graph, it looks like the G37 really likes to rev up, which makes it a more sporty car (IMO), while the 335i, thanks to the two turbos, has more low/mid range power, and kind of drives like a big lazy (but quick as hell) V8... Look at this comparative dyno... between the two cars.
I'm really happy about the purchase, and hope this car won't give me too many headaches... I know BMWs can be expensive to maintain, but hey, if you wanna play... you gotta pay...
Oh and last thing... the seats... I absolutely love them! The side supports are great, they hug you in the curves, keeping you from sliding, and they are very comfortable. I was driving a rental corolla for 3.5 hours down to Tennessee, I stopped twice to stretch, and by the time I got there, my back was killing me. On the way back in the BMW, I didn't stop once, and felt completely fine when I got home.
After all this, I still miss my Maxima. I miss the "rawness" of that car. The BMW is a very refined car, that delivers the power smoothly and quietly... The Maxima is a much wilder car that delivers power to the wheels in a more brutal manner... I will definitely miss that!

Beautiful car and great choice. I know what you mean by the refined feeling. My brother-in-law just got an 09 Vantage with 420hp. The cars feels great but my maxima does have that raw rush of power when it reaches 4,000rpm. Enjoy the BMW and stick around here.
Sent you payment for those parts, thanks for working with me.

have they already picked up your maxima? and like i stated before if you dont mind me asking what insurance company you have? this way i know which salvage auction to watch for.
i do like your new car, an old co-worker of mine had a 330I and loved it, it was his dream car when he bought it, never gave him any trouble at all, he said the ONLY thing he didnt like was when winter hit the RWD wasnt as nice as his old FWD.

Yeah I know, not a great winter car, especially around here... I'll get a beater car for the snow days...

Congrats! Looks like a great, clean pick up dude! I heard the twin turbo versions are not very reliable and BMW changed to the single twin scroll version which is apparently much better but I really don't know BMW. Either way I think you made a good choice, these Maximas are ridiculously sloppy.

I also forgot to mention, according to the computer, I averaged 30.3 mpg on the 3 1/2 hour ride back home (I-40 and I-81), which based on what I read is pretty accurate... The car weighs almost 3600lbs, that's about 300lbs more than the maxima, I weigh 190lbs and I had a 275lbs passenger with me...

looks like IAAI will be the auction that ends up with the car, post up when the car is picked up so i can start watching for it, im not a registered buyer with them so ill probably have to find a dealer who is and pay them alittle premium just to bid on it.
