cracked timing chain cover ?'s
well i have a crack in the timing chain cover and was thinking about tackling the job myself with a buddy of mine. i figured if i can swap an engine in and out of an evo, i figured i should be able to do a timing chain cover on a maxima.
basically wanted to know if there are any major obstacles that need to be overcome. like does the oil pan need to come off? does the water pump need to be taken off? or is it just pretty straight forward like removing the motor mount, accessory belts/pulleys and hoses?

nah...you can see the crack pretty good and the tensioner rattles everytime i give it gas. just wanna make sure i dont have to take off the water pump and the oil pan.
is there a schematic anywhere that confirms it?

not really sure. car has 190k miles on it and she runs like a champ. never really had any problems with her. engine runs smooth and quiet. was quoted 500 for the part and about 900 in labor.
definetly a lot of money to be dumping into a 13 year old vehicle but theres no way im gonna get rid of the car. its been a really good DD.

you're state of perplexion combined with me not finding any other people that have ever had a cracked timing chain cover on a de-k makes me thing that this is very rare circumstance. : (
weird thing is that my car aside from a ypipe is basically stock all the way down to the factory air filter.. i redline the car maybe once a month.

Pages 18-33 for complete removal/install of the timing chain. Pick what info you want from that.

When you replace the cover, I would have the guides and tensioners replaced with the main timing chain if they've never been done. Save yourself a future headache.
If you can't find a cover anywhere maybe I can sell you mine, I just did a swap and have a whole engine just chillin. Good luck

I had my cat welded and it supposedly its one of the hardest metal's to weld.. I'm sure a decent welder can do it no problem, the question is, can they do it while its in place or would it have to be removed.
