best bang for the buck mods and maintenance

I recently purchased a 2000 se 5 speed. I also have a 02 se auto. After doing some research I have come to find the mods aren't as straight forward on this car.

I planned to do h/I/e but it seems like headers aren't easy, due to the egr. Is the gab just as effective on the 5gen as the 5.5? Also what's a good ypipe/exhaust system to get that has good sound?

Also I want to do mostly maintenance before mods.
I plan to change the fuel/air filters, fluids, tie rods, bearings, wheel hubs, ball joints, and replace the struts and springs with coilovers.
Any problematic areas to address that I didn't list above?

Lastly if there are any favorite mods you guys have done that would give vast improvement over stock, please share!
Thank you

Another good maintenance area usually overlooked is the in cabin filter. You can get excellent filters at low cost from aircabinman (or something like that) off eBay.

Pay attention to (inspect) lower radiator support. Also inspect motor/tranny/torque mounts for replacement, especially on the autos.

Haha I just said I searched. I just wanted personal opinions.

And rcrootbeer... I don't spend any time on this forum except for when I have an issue. So no in 10 months I havent spent all my waking hours researching and learning maximas. I've seen your threads though, and you just a glowing angel aren't you?

And when the two of you had time to post a snarky remark, how about advice instead. I didn't ask for what you stated. So gtfo

So you come here only for help?? Good to know that... People wont spoon feed you.. And to come on here to think you can take and not give is wrong. Thats like expecting to get paid an hourly wage and not work.... Contribute some and people will recognize you and jump to help you with your problem because they know you would do the same in return. There are tons of threads that are pages long! Asking EVERYTHING you are! Personal opinions? EVERY THREAD are pretty much personal opinions/experiences.

WE GOT ANOTHER PLANECRASH ON OUR HANDS PEOPLE!

But to answer your question, id start with taking a gerber knife and hacking down your ground mating surfaces, followed by a dryer vent intake with the filter located in front of the rad. Shiet adds mad HP BRO!

Oh so your part of the famed ghustler group. Good for you for spending your time to go on the internet and troll people. While aviation is a dumbass, you and most of the forum do nothing but instigate, and talk shiz.
Nobody new ever wants to contribute because you guys just hate and say derogatory things.

And yes what I said means I'm going to install a dryer vent intake and remove my PVC.

Oh and sorry I have nothing to contribute. Did you want me to contribute how much I don't know about these cars? Should I start a thread on dryer vent intakes? Should I gave advice on absolutely nothing I know about? Should I tell you to get an oiled injen? Should you get Napa coil packs? What's your opinion on cutting springs? Seriously?

Nope, nothing to do with the gustler threads, or any of the other arguemental threads. The forums are filled with great advice! If you SEARCHED you would find it, so not everyone here is instigating or talking shiz. Lots of people contribute, there was just recently a newbie who started an intake thread that has been covered alot, but cuz it was so detailed everyone was thankful of it. (check it out it could be your next mod :-)) and from the things you plan on changing from your OP and what you stated above, you must know a little bit about cars, which at one point could come in handy for someone needing a little help here on the ORG.

Coilovers
Rear sway bar
All new bushings everywhere
All new front end parts (BJ, TR Ends, endlinks)

Don't bother with power mods on a 13 year old sedan that was a 16 second car in its prime. Just button it down, stiffen it up and enjoy driving the car.

Cut him some slack, CJ. His opening post was fine, and seemingly reasonable, too, talking about maintenance > mods.

Thank you Rochester. I should have just PM'd you since your maxima was nicely modded in terms of handeling and aesthetics. You are right and I understand the power mod part. I was just trying to free up some lost power.

It still is, AFAIK.

Better even, now that merovi added a set of Tein CO's, HID fogs and this awesome double DIN Nav/Audio system.

LOL, so true.

When someone comes at you like in a car forum, ignore the nonsense (or at least pretend to) without getting obviously defensive. Fight stoopid with humor, OP, because people who are trying to look important by putting you down only look more ridiculous through their efforts.

And if that doesn't work, then by all means, throw pooh at them.

What?

There's a Stillen light-weight crank pulley in my old Max, and I strongly disagree with this. If you're micro-managing modification funds, this shouldn't be on the list.

IDK if Stillen is still selling it for the 5th gen, but last I looked they wanted $250 new. Maybe a few less for the UDP.

Man this forum went down hill. Glad to see Rochester still helping out around here since he was here when the guys who really started this forum were still around helping. Anyways...

Your going to get more out of ur 5gen with just a y pipe. And more out of your 5.5 with headers. In terms of bank for buck. Which are really not a driveway mechanic job. And your looking at a few hundred in labor. (400+)

An NWP block off plate is cheap and easy for the 5.5 but will change the power curve. Shaving off some low tq to gain some power up top. It mates well with an intake.

Your cats are prob all shot on the 5.5 or close to it.

The gab mod is over rated. I've tried it 2 or 3 different ways and didn't like any of them. Keep your helmholtz (sp?) the black piece between ur maf and tb and add an intake after the maf.

Your maf can be cleaned on the 5gen. Don't touch the 5.5 lol

Progress rsb mated with a ftsb will tighten both cars up a bit

And new bushings everywhere lol

If u have any Qs just ask. I've have been on this form a long time and don't really come on much anymore cause it seems to have gone downhill. But I have modded a 2k and a 2k2 max so lmk if u need any more help

Only to some, but I've not taken a poll.

OP, in defense of hustler's hackles, he's no stranger to the drag-strip, so if he has an opinion about straight-line speed, it carries more weight than others.

That's not just light-weight, it's a UDP.

$118 sure does make it more reasonable. Hmm, OK.

Some people dont understand that you can get the undersized pulley for the alty and it wouldnt effect the charging if used with the udp

They make both, udp, and lightweight, but for arguments sake I would think the udp would make more hp.
