Valve Covers

It can get confusing. Helps me keep it straight by thinking about it like a person, another person's left hand is their left whether you are facing the same direction or facing them directly. But their left will always the same side. Just like the front of a car equates to the direction it is facing or "looking" forward.

I apologize if I hurt your feelings. It was not my intention. I post things on here only when I am sure the information I am posting is correct. I did not want people to confuse what cylinder is where. My intention was to help not to offend anybody.

I would 100% use PlaneCrash's recommendation on window cleaner! I bet he can tell just by taste the difference between the blue windex and the purple one. Which reminds me, which one did they use on the cool little school bus you went to school on? Blue or Purple? Which is tastier? Have you noticed a difference between generic and actual windex?

Steering this thread back on topic...
I received my new valve covers from Courtesy Parts today (Fast as Hell, I know), the PCV valve was broken on the rear the cover. I called to see if they would send me a new PCV valve and they are going to ship a whole new rear cover. Sending UPS to pick up the one with a broken PCV. Seems a bit overkill to me but they do seem to have good customer service. I would definitely recommend them.
(I almost just bought a new PCV instead of bothering with the return but $15? The whole valve cover is only $30. I'll let them send me a new one.)

You can replace the gasket between the cover and the head, but not the seals around the spark plug tubes. These are consistently places oil leak, particularly cylinder 5 for some reason. The rear 6th gen cover is too cheap not to buy it and go ahead with replacing it. Go ahead and replace spark plugs as well. The rear cover also comes with a new PCV, so don't worry about buying seperate. No need to replace front cover unless known leaks exist.
Also, how does one go about replacing the seals around the spark plug tube?
Hard to do/part number?
About to 6th gen my 5.5 once I get the details. :/
Thanks.

(As a side note, this would be a good time to add those NWP intake spacers.)

Keep in mind you will need to use a bit of RTV on the side of the valve cover next to the timing cover. If you don't use the RTV it will leak in that area. Follow the valve cover install instructions from the FSM.

When it comes to Plane Crash (Aviation005) do not listen to anything he says because 95% of it is flat out wrong or just poor information.
We have a lot of fun at his expense, but he has provided us with a lot of gems so we appreciate his input as it makes our days a bit easier with the fun and laughter.

In case anyone is wondering, 350Z or G35 valve covers also work, as long as you don't plan on using the Maxima engine cover. The difference is that the oil-filler hole on the RWD valve covers is higher and quasi horizontal (due to access issues/different IM design).

Just an update, new valve covers are now installed. Still working on a few more things. Hope to have her running again by the end of the week (thank god, she's been down since January).

Sorry to revive an old thread, but what were the part numbers for the front valve cover, and the gaskets for the front and rear? I've got the rear valve cover as part number 13264 and there is another that is 13264+A. Gaskets I found are 13270 and 13270+A I just wanted to verify before ordering and replacing next weekend. Thanks in advance

After reading through that thread, decided I wanted to just get the rear valve cover and gasket, as my front cover doesn't seem to be an issue with leaking oil. Any idea which part number is for the rear out of those listed in that thread? 13264-7Y000 and 13264-7Y010 are the valve covers, 13270-EA20A and 13270-EA21A are the gaskets. Thanks in advance, my dealership is a VW/Nissan dealership, but act completely negligent to Nissans lol. Heaven forbid I give them my VIN and its an Infiniti I35, they might not even take my order, so that's why I just need the part numbers
edit: after doing some more digging, I was able to answer my own question. thanks again
