Maxima Love.

Well because I'm one of those types of guys that likes to know exactly what car I'm going to get a year or two before I even get it, I've started test driving the various cars I've been curious about. Today I test drove:
2000 GS300
2013 Scion FRs
2006? Honda Civic SI
2002 MX-5 Miata 1.8liter (IMO the best model besides the great Mazdaspeed)

All were manual except GS300. I really wanted a GS400 but almost same car other than engine. Still left to test drive a mid 2000's G35 coupe, an RSX-s and maybe a WRX.

My current car is a 2000 auto SE with ram air intake setup and a ghetto fab cold air scoop that grabs air from just under the bumper. Mandrel pipes from the manifold back through the stock muffler. Timing advance and manual engine mounts. Nothing too special, just the regular maxima mods.

Let me tell you guys, after every test drive today I was glad to get back in my maxima. Off the line I feel like it would take any of those cars. Sure, some handled better but my suspension is untouched...and I dont even have FSTB or RSB. My point of this rant is that our cars are actually much better appreciated after driving some other "fun" cars. I'm gonna keep the old maxima a bit longer I think

My only question is will the "great" G35 coupe finally grab me and punch me in the jimmies

Glad the Max made you proud, and for the G35 may give you a little Wow, but if you test drive the one with that VQ35HR engine think like 07 that should knock you in the Jimmies, or maybe drive a 06 GS350 NICE also....

Im gonna be honest...i was DEAD SET on my next car being a gs400.....they have exceptional reliability and are fast as hell stock and even faster with boltons. But my test drive left me underwhelmed and a little bummed. Im looking for something slightly more "drivers car" than my max and that was the opposite. It felt like a Cadillac I got back in my maxima and it sounded and felt like a Corvette compared.

10K or less. I'm a firm believer in letting stuff depreciate like crazy and then picking up someones well cared for vehicle I'd otherwise not be able to afford...

Watch out for the 05-06 G35 oil burners if you decide to go the G route...

Test drove a 2013 Genesis Coupe......2.0 turbo today and also a 2009 G37 Manual Coupe. I don't know what it is but as new and as well built as those cars are.....and the g37 is pretty quick......they just DONT make me want to get rid of my max and take on a payment. SOfar none of the cars on my list have done it for me!

I had a 04 maxima which has been totaled and now i drive a 04 G35 coupe with sport package. Honestly, i liked the maxima more. It was so much more roomier and the driver seat was light years more conformable than the G35 seat.

Furthermore, the suspension in the coupe is stiff which sucks for city driving when compared to my maxima which was very smooth and good taking the bumps, considering the fact i had GR2 all around on the maxima with stock springs.

However, the coupe is much faster than the maxima. Even stock i can easily overtake anything in 5th gear by simply flooring. Performance wise, its a very noticeable difference. Anyway, its either comfort or performance; chose your poison.

You forgot the fun factor... I recently bought a 335i to replace my loaded 03 maxima, and the BMW is more comfortable and outperforms the maxima performance wise, but it's just not as fun to drive... I'd describe the maxima as a "raw beast" compared to any of the cars the OP has tried... Maximas are really adicting cars...

335i is in a different ball park in terms of price and maintenance. I don't think it would be a good comparison vs the maxima...

This thread is making me appreciate my 5.5 more, and more. I love the car, but sometimes I feel like I should jump into something a little newer, and possibly more sporty. The truth is that after test driving a few, I feel the same as 2kmaxim who hit the nail right on the head. I haven't seen/driven anything that could make me leave my maxima in favor of a car payment, and possibly higher insurance.

My 5.5 is gettin up there in mileage (306,xxxkm), but she still drives well, and the interior/exterior are mint. I can't help but think that if I were to get rid of the car...that I'd likely regret it, for one reason or another.

Ive been following this thread, I dont own a maxima but I own an 01 i30 and I somewhat agree with TLMNICK, sometimes I completely love it and other times I just want to try something new..seeing an 02 Audi A6 2.5 recently made me rethink my choice in vehicle..but the more i think about it the more I realize I honestly dont think i can part with this car haha. Its like a labor of love, 216k miles and going strong.

I wish the maxima had a better turn radius...

I got it over a G35 because of cheaper price / insurance but the turn radius is just blehh

If you continue to take care of it you will go beyond 250k. Mine currently has 220k.

makes me sad to read these...

I had a '00 SE and loved it. I had her on KYB Gr-2's, Tein H's, cai, HID conversion, tinted 20%, maintained very well, 110k on the clock and still going strong.

Traded her for an '05 SE, which is a great car, little more power, but i sure do mis my 5th gen! I thought improving from a 5th to 6th gen i would be happy... honestly, the only thing i like about it is the heated steering wheel and seats....

I miss my 5th gen!!

I actually saw the '00 driving around the other day... young girl driving her, couldn't be but 17/18yrs old. Smashed up front drivers side...

Yeah I ended up researching and choosing the 00 Max due to seeing it one time on the road. I was in my IS300 at the time (which ended up completely bending me over financially because it was almost new)....and I remember thinking they looked just as cool as my IS with the altezza taillights everyone copies. I think I saw an SE with the blacked out lights like I have.
