Temp gauge not working!?
Well, you have to figure out if the problem is the sending unit in the engine or the gauge in the dash.
Get the FSM and it tells you how to run the self diagnostic on the dash gauges and the FSM also tells you how to test the sending unit in the engine. Both tests are pretty simple to do.
If you don't have a FSM, get one here:

By sending unit do you mean the water temperature sensor? I know that mu radiator fan kicks up when it reaches a point so this indicator the sensor is working fine right? Could the problem be the ECM itself?
You'll see a temp switch and the coolant temp sensor right next each other, follow the upper hose on the driver side and you'll see two sensor on a metal connector to the block. that where you'll be looking for, both are threaded into it, one has a flad blade connector that is the temp switch, tells the guage where your temp reading.

On the 5.5 gen (3.5 liter engine) there is only one temperature sensor. This is different from the 5.0 gen with the 3.0 liter engine.
The one sending unit that you have located is it. It should have 2 wires attached to it. It is called the ECTS and the signal from the from the sensor goes to the ECU and then the ECU sends a signal to the dash gauge.
So the sending unit in the engine could be bad, the dash gauge could be bad and in a very remote chance, the ECU could be bad. Test the units per the service manual to figure out which one.
And next time when you are asking about your car, please tell us what year it is. It will help to prevent this kind of mis-communication.
