Misfiring

I have a 2001 Maxima GLE with 170 000KM on it. The SES light (with Slip and traction control lights) has been coming and going for the past 2 weeks with P1320, did some searching on here and read about the coil problems.

Was about to diagnose the coils then a P0301 code popped up. Great, now I know which coil to change out now, right? Wrong. I picked up a coil from the local Nissan dealer in Calgary ($114 - was cheaper than any aftermarket one locally). I installed the new coil and plugged in my OBD2 scanner and reset the light.

Went for a drive and 1 km down the road surely the SES light starts flashing (never flashed before) at me, pulled over and scanned. Surely those damned codes came up again (P1320 and P0301). I reset the light and drove off, its still shuddering when stopping at red lights so I plugged in my scanner again and I got P1320 and P0140 which were pending codes. Reset those and and scanned 10 minutes later, P1320 is still pending but doesn't seem to be misfiring anymore. What gives? Bad OEM coil out of the box? Another coil following suit?

I'd swap the coil in cylinder 1 and 3 and see if the code follows the coil, if so then you have a bad new coil.

When the SES light is flashing, that means that the ECU is detecting the misfiring at that time. P0140 is a bank one O2 sensor code and cylinder 1 is in bank 1, so those codes go together. But don't worry about the P0140 right now, it may go away when you fix the mis-fire.

Like Pilm said, swap the new coil with another cylinder and see what happens with the codes. But remember, the P1320 code is saying MULTIPLE cylinders.

The 1320 will clear itself in a bit - as others have said, swap coils and give it a long drive. Preferably at highway speeds in 5th or 4th at a lower RPM, give it some heavy throttle (not quite so its bogging) from lower RPM to give high load(s) on the coils.

The 1320 often comes up for bad coil/plug/wiring...etc

Make sure your plugs are correct (might as well replace em anyway, use OEM), OHM your coil, go for a longer drive than 1KM and reset code to see what happens.

This...

Also, make sure your new coil pack is plugged in all the way. Those connectors can get a bit finicky without them engaging and snapping in all the way making full contact.

Thanks for the replies guys, 0301 code is gone but 1320 remains. Plugs were recently changed out, They are OEM NGK's. I will check the voltages on the ECM tomorrow as it says in the FSM and check the resistances on each coil as per another thread on here
