2000 Passenger Power Seat Control Switch

Hi- I have a 2000 SE. It has dual heated power seats. I believe the driver side is 12 way and the passenger is a 6 was power seat. I had a short in the controller switch for the passenger seat. The mechanic disconnected but I do not even remember where it was located. I see he loosened the front bolt of the seat so I am thinking it is located on a harness under the seat.

I am searching wreckers for a replacement. Can I use a switch from another year Maxima? A dealer parts guy said 1997 thru 2002 should be okay. Will the driver's side switch work (I found a 99 Maxima but it only has a driver's side power seat).

What about Altima switches? Are they the same?

I realize they questions are kind of obscure but maybe someone has been through this already.

Thanks

Exactly what is bad? Is it the seat moving the problem or is the heating portion the problem?

The mechanic probably unplugged a wire harness that is under the seat. The seat movement and seat heating have their own harnesses.

Yes, he disconnected the seat motor switch. It had developed a short. I believe it is a modular type that will snap in, similar to the master window controller I replaced a year ago.

Hey Canonbuilt- That looks exactly like my seat controls. Are you saying you have the mechanical levers as shown in the picture or the electrical switching? I have what you show in the picture but the electrical switch is blown.

That is awesome. I also need the center console if it is the grey color. The top part (the lid to the little storage above the console) does not stay closed any more. Tried just glueing it shut but it keeps coming lose.

Just let me know what you want and we can set it up.

Thanks!

I will post some pics as soon as I can. Basically it is the lid of the center console. The console has 2 storage areas, the main large one and a smaller tray above. The top section has a latch that you push in to open and the main compartment has a latch you pull out below it. The plastic latch for that small top section broke so it won't stay closed.

That said I definitely need the passenger seat switch and want that more anyway.

That was fast! I guess is that latch piece comes off the color of the console won't matter. It looks like it might just screw out. Hard to tell the color from pics but mine is grey.

There are only 3 interior colors used - black, gray and tan.

Tomorrow (I'm actually in bed now) I will take a look at the assembly and try to see if I can just remove a piece with that latch so that I can use it on my grey console top/arm rest. Otherwise I will be very happy to get the seat switch from you!

Thanks much...........Marc

It turns out I can use the latch mechanism without the arm rest. I also found out I can puchase it for about $18 so that may be a better option than bothering you with packing it.

As far as the seat goes- I cannot remember what the mechanic had to disconnect. The short may have been in the harness, the motor itself, or the switch on the seat. I seem to recall it was the harness but I guess I will have to remove the seat and have a look.

The odds of the harness being shorted are pretty small. More likely its the motor. There are threads here about the motors going bad, the brushes inside the motor. But there are no guarantees on what it might be.

Hi cannonbuilt- I haven't forgotten you. I'm still trying to find out what I need. I can see the connector that the electrician disconnected under the seat. I called him but he cannot remember the job. I'm planning on going by his shop this week. I suspect I need the motor.

Thanks
