New Gen5 owner - wow- i had no idea!
I picked up a 2002 GLE from my neighbor for a family car since it had 4-doors, was in good shape and low mileage (77K).
The first week I had the blower motor stop working. Thank you very much for the info on this site which allowed me to replace the blower amp & motor along with the filter for under $100. The dealer wanted over $500 for the same work and parts.
Anyways - like my title says - i had no idea that the car was this fast or this much fun! The engine is super smooth but when I get on the gas - the thing keeps on accelerating until i slingshot past the rest of traffic.
I bought the max for those times when i needed to carry more than 2 people - but it has now turned into my daily driver. Since I am using it more than planned - I also swapped out the struts for KYB Excel-Gs and the car really drives like almost new. My wife isn't impressed though since she couldn't tell the difference in ride/handling and she wishes I had spent the money on repainting the rear bumper where the paint is scraped off in two 6" spots.
The OP replaced this Max with a 2013 - and he commented that with the added features and weight on his new car - he thinks the Gen 5 might be faster.
Although I am not having any issues - I think that I will clean the MAF, bleed the brakes and change the oil on the weekend.
Quick question - I thought that I would offer up the stock struts for sale since they only had 79K. Any idea what a fair price to ask for them would be?

My opinion is that you should not sell those struts, you should trash them.
With 79K on them, they are worn out or close to it, depending on the roads in your area. Part of the reason the KYBs feel so good is that the original struts are wearing/worn out.

The car has lived an easy life driving on mostly smooth Texas roads. The suspension was far from gone when i replaced it. I was actually concerned when i put in the KYBs that i wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The new struts are tighter but as a reference point - my other car is a Mazdaspeed Miata with super light OZ rims and Koni shocks - so I am very sensitive to suspension changes.
I wouldn't recommend the struts I took out for someone looking to upgrade to new but for someone with a higher mileage Max - they could be a nice change for not much money.
