My 3 year old broke my car door-Please Help!!!!

So I recently bought a 2000 Maxima GLE. Great car. I love it. My 3 year old son was inside the car in the back seat holding the lock down with his finger as I was hitting the unlock button on my keys. Immediatly the door would not open (driver side rear) so I removed the seat and the shoulder so I could get the door panel off. I did that and thankfully got the door open. Now here's the thing. I made sure all the linkage was where it should be and now the door opens but you have to lift up on the handle as you open the door and you can only open it from the outside not the inside. Like the child safety lock is on. And the child safety switch itself looks broken. So I really don't know what to do. Somebody please point me in the right direction because I'm broke and I'm really trying to avoid those outrageous Nissan dealership prices lol. Thanks

try unlocking it with the controls on the drivers door, as well as the key fob. try with the manual lock switch on the door, as well as the interior/exterior handles. with each, check for any mechanical noises. if there are any, something is trying to function but is either broken or jammed if the function isnt doing its job. if you can pinpoint the mechanism, you'll know it needs fixing/replacing.

if there is absolutely no noise when you use the fob or the driver switch, its most likely an electrical issue. whatever controls the lock electrics will need to be replaced.

This is what my kids did to the doors in my Excursion. It would make the "click" when I hit the button, but didn't move the lock. When I tried again I didn't hear anything. They fried the acuators. I did find a thread on a Ford truck forum that walked through a free fix. I popped the acuator open, opened the motor, and wrapped a resistor with aluminum foil. After zip tying everything back together, voila! Works like a charm. Not sure if this would work on the Nissan acuators, but you might want to search for the free fix (Ford f150 or Excursion) before buying a new one... if that turns out to be your issue that is.

When I hit the unlock buttons everything moves like it should so I don't think its electrical. Because if it was the lock wouldn't move right? Could it be the lock mechanism itself? Should i replace the door? Idk what to do

replace door lock actuator...95% sure thats ur problem. if you had a power probe id say hit the switch with actuator connectors off. 3 t27 bolts and unhitch all linkages. replace. i usually do em at work with the window up.

I agree with the actuator, as per my previous post. But before you buy a new actuator or pay someone to replace it, check out the "how-to" that I followed to fix the ones for FREE on my Excursion. I know it's not a Ford Maxima, but maybe a similar fix can be applied. If the actuator is shot, what harm is there in opening up and taking a look??? http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/44...cks-fixed.html
