Pulls to the left, some clanking ... D2 coilovers

well i just got a new maxima with d2 coilovers. got 4 new tires all around and went to get it aligned just to be safe. but heres the delima
say when im at a stoplight and i turn right then start driving it will pull to the right, but if i turn to the left and then drive it will drive pretty straight maybe a little pull to the left? it also makes a clanking noise while turning the wheel usually in reverse.
this is very annoying, and i dont want my tires to wear abnormally from this. i can deal with it but my wallet cant. lol
trax tires said everything in the front felt tight and nothing looked worn.
any ideas/suggestions? should i even worry about it??
thanks!

are you saying it doesn't turn left or that after a left turn and you drive straight it pulls to the left slighty and you have to correct it with the steering wheel?

You have a steering issue.

Sounds like you may have a front coilover that is binding on one side. The strut/coilover should turn freely inside the strut tower. If a strut mount bearing is bad the coilover may not turn freely and will actually load up with energy as you turn the steering wheel. Then when you release the steering wheel it will pull back in the opposite direction to release that built up load.

On a lift or on the ground have someone turn the steering wheel side to side. Watch the spring on both sides. If one of them seems to be sticking and doesn't move smoothly that would be the one.

you should hear it move if it binds up that much and then releases right?

Yes I would have thought there would have been more noise noticed if this proves to be the issue. He did note a lot of noise in reverse however.

OP you've probably already looked at this but make sure the 3 nuts on each strut tower under the hood are tight - like 40 ft-lbs tight.

My car made a similar noise, turned out to be a broken exhaust hanger. The noise was the most present when in reverse.

Hmmm...it sounds like two separate issues. Let's focus on the front end steering problem.

1. Is it worse under acceleration?

2. Do you feel a pull or loss of control at any point? Such as a severe pull.

3. Is the steering loose?

4. Any sounds going over bumps?

5. Difference in the feeling between high or low speed turns? Do you feel it during low speed turns?

It sounds like the coilovers, but I wouldn't say they are the bearing unless he is hearing clunking noises. It could be an install problem with the coilovers.

OP...you bought the Maxima with the coilovers already installed?

took it to two places. they set the tow and camber and they say they cannot figure out why it will pull to the last way it was turned......but the popping was front one of the coilover springs binding when i backup up. that went away. should i worry about this pulling issue or just leave it alone. he said it wouldnt wear my tires wrong.
