Front headlight clearance light (small round one) not working

Okay, my Maxima is a 2003. One of the bright headlights stopped working. I changed the light bulbs, the same high beam headlight (drivers side) still was not working. I went into the fusebox under the hood on the drivers side. I discovered that each of the 20A fuses control each headlight, if you remove one the entire headlight assembly will not turn on. Therefore, they control the entire power supply to each headlight. The two 15A fuses control the high beams. Well one of the 15A fuses were blown, once I replaced it the high beam light started working. Well now, the small round light about the round yellow light (turn signal) in the headlight assembly does not work!! When I turn the headlights on they do not light up. All the other exterior lights are working except those. Is there a fuse that controls those? If so where is it? I tested all of the fuses under the hood and under the dash with a meter, all ok. When I turn on the parking lights (which means everything except headlights) they still do not light up and I know they are suppose to!!!! Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Oh, once I discovered those weren't working I bought new bulbs and replaced the old ones....still no luck!!!

First off, welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you may have had a short that blew the fuse and maybe damaged the wiring harness??? Looking at the wiring diagram what you say doesn't make much sense. Not saying it can't happen...just odd. I would go through the wiring for those lights and make sure nothing is shorted out, burned, or broken. Check the FSM for wiring diagrams to follow.

The EL section is what you're looking for.

You came to an incorrect conclusion about the fuses. There are 4 fuses for the headlights, 2 for the low beams and 2 for the high beams. However, the way Nissan wires it, the high beam fuse also powers the relay for the headlamp, so if a high beam fuse blows (or you pull it out) the relay won't energize and neither the high or low beam will light up.

But in a more constructive comment, swap the headlight relays and see if the problem changes sides. The relays are in the box by the power steering reservoir.

He's fixed the headlight problem already. Now his front parking lights appear to be out...on both sides. Relay swap isn't going to do much there.

check the little bulbs first, man. You say you bought new bulbs...did you buy the right ones?

Also...you say when you turn on parking lights it's "everything but the headlights"...does that include your fogs? (IOW, have you rewired your fogs to come on with the parking lights?)

Also, do your tail lights come on when you have the parking lights on?

And have you VERIFIED that they used to come on before?

Yea I tripled check, they are the correct bulbs, yes when the parking lights are on the tail lights, license plate lights, and side markers all come on furthermore the owners manual says the the "clearance lights" come one when the parking lights are activated. Yes I am positive they are supposed to come on when the parking lights are used or when the headlights are on. No my fog lights have not been rewired.they only come on when I turn the separate switch for them on the stalk.

Take the bulbs out, use a meter to check continuity, maybe it's just a simple case of bad or possibly blown bulbs.

BTW: The parking lamp is supposed to be #168 per the Sylvania bulb replacement guide.

as you can see the top round light is not working, same thing on the drivers side. the lights or on dim, all other lights function properly and I am positive when you turn on the park lights or the headlights those lights are supposed to come on. They do not come on at all no matter the setting.

any solution?

I have the same issue on my newly acquired 2002 Max. The clearance lights do not light, was wondering if they were tied to some special activity like the turn signals...
Any resolution?

2002 maxima fog/parking light issue

Hey, my lights began doing odd things also. Fog lights quit working and also noticed the parking lights on front only work as turn signals or emergency flashers and I swear they used to be on with the lights..?!
