valet key question

i was wondering whats the differences are there between the regular key and valet key? my car cam with only a valet key so i cant unlock the trunk with the key or lock the glove box.

is there any alternative to get a regular key made without having to go to the dealer? they want $150....

Check out local locksmiths. They can also make and program keys for the car. Call a few and get quotes.

I think there is a difference in the thickness of the regular key and the valet key that peeps you from unlocking the trunk and glove box. I got that from a dealer but dealers do tell stories.

The difference is in the way they cut the key, the valet key is noticeably thicker in one area as compared to the regular key. Once you get a new key the differences will become clear.

The Ace Hardware in my town will make them, I just called and they quoted me a price of $69.99 and that includes programming the key.

my valet key won't start the car only the doors

so if I ever want a key, I need to buy a key and pay my dealer ~$50 to program 1 key (key not included)

Sounds like your valet key isn't programmed. My valet key starts my car just fine. I just can't open the trunk. I have it on my 2nd set of house keys that I use often.

Check with your local locksmith. When I bought my car, the one key I had would not open the trunk. I went to my local locksmith and got 2 keys made and the key blanks he used open the trunk. And it was a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Are you talking about the RED key that only starts the car here?

Yes, but it will unlock the drivers door too.
