priming oil pump

whats teh prefered method for priming the oil pump. how long should it take? i just finally got my car back together and one of the repairs i did was fixing my upper oil pan leak. one of my friends told me to just start it up and if the oil light doesnt go otu within 5 seconds i should prime it. i cranked it and after 5 seconds the light didnt come off.

Check oil level, pull out spark plugs, floor the gas pedal to activate deflood mode so injectors don't pump fuel into the cylinder and crank the car til the oil light goes away. Should take good 10 seconds.

i pulled the fuel pump fuse and cranked it till it started to crank slow. the oil light never went out. i pulled the oil filter out and there was oil in it so it seems to be going through.

now im wondering if maybe the oil pressure switch got damaged when the machine shop cleaned the pan in there machine...
