Has anyone had any rust repair done? My 00 Maxi is rusting around the back wheel wells, bubbling by the spoiler mounting point, and on the rocker panels. How much would the repair cost (general estimate) and would it be worth it, as I live in the great state of wisconsin and salt can be an issue. I will post pics later.

 

I live in Massachusetts and had bad rust around my wheel wells too. I spent $400 to get it removed. It looked fantastic when I got it back later that day, but then it rained and within 5 days it was bubbling again. Right now, less than a year later, it's worse than it was before and I regret getting it fixed. My case might be different, but try searching and googling about the rust issue before you drop $400 like I did

 

I had rust bubbling under the paint in about a 3 inch wide area on both sides of my rear wheel openings and rust above my windshield on the roof.

I took it to (Offutt collision) the Local collision shop in town and they removed the windshield and cut the bad metal out and welded in new metal and primer and painted the roof and also cut out the bad metal around both rear wheel openings and and then primed and painted both rear fenders and then blended the paint on both rear doors and bumper so everything matched nicely and looks brand new.

Total to have everything done was $1200

It might sound pricey but it looks great now.

The main chunk of the price came from all the labor to cut out the metal and weld new stuff in.

 

wow! could it be the quality of paint? technically that shouldn't happen. I would have went back.

Within 5 days? what method of repair did they use to fix it? Fiberglass etc. Sounds like you got ripped off I hope they warranty their work.

I also have some rust repair around my rear wheel fender and it seems the best way is to have it cut and welded as someone else posted. Thats the repair I will shop around for.

 

I don't know what they did, but I was pissed when I noticed the bubbling. They said that they'd redo it in the spring, hopefully they'll keep their word. There's white marks all along the wheel well. I don't know what they did.

Basically be careful who you pay to fix your car haha

This is my current rust repair/ antenna shave/ dent repair. The rust was aroung the wheel and up ender the panel a bit. Grinded all the rust away, POR 15 everything, short strand fiberglass to rebuild the hole, and I'm in the body filler process right now.

The weather took a turn toward the ****ter so I'm waiting till it gets nice again to finish the shape and get some primer on it

Look at the value of the car and ask this question: Is it worth it doing rust Repair?Most of the time it is no if it is like an $500.00 car.Most of the time it is a waste of money.

 

That depends on who you are speaking to.. I am original owner of my max and have spent a lot of many on enhancements over the years. So yes, a 500 dollars rust job would be a no brainer to me.

 

Yep, same here, I'd probably just let it go given it's a 12-13 year old car and I doubt the rust will end it's life before something else does.

 

This is why I wash out the wheel wells everytime I wash the car and frequently spray oil rustproofing in the area. I only wish I had known about the lower rad support rust issues on these cars as oiling it would have saved me all the work on restoring that area. The front engine support is fastened to this and was hanging down 1/2".
