Replacing front strut mounts/bearings
Replacing front strut mounts/bearings
I'm replacing both front strut mounts/bearings with MOOG Part # K90655. Just wondering what other parts I should replace while I'm there. Is it necessary to replace the coil spring insulator or coil spring seat? I have tokico Illuminas.

I replaced my struts, mounts, and boots at 210,000+ miles. The spring seats were almost like new so they were not replaced. If you're going to the trouble to replace the strut mounts it would be an excellent time to install new boots. I would highly recommend the OEM boots, a little more money but so much better than the aftermarket stuff that's downright cheesy IMO. I also went with OEM mounts for the same reason. But I love the KYB GR2 struts that I finally chose, especially on long trips.

OK strut mounts and boots it is..
So no need to replace anything else like the coil spring insulator, I heard they can sometimes cause noise when they're bad. I do get a slight thumping sound over bumps, mainly at lower speeds. This is why I want to replace the mounts.

One of my struts would clunk driving over speed bumps, noise went away when new struts were installed. Also had an inner tie rod that would make noise driving slowly on rough pavement.
