free short throw mod fail..

i did the short throw mod for my 02 6 speed and it didnt turn out to good. its impossible to get into reverse. i was mesing with it all morning cause i havent been able to get my car into reverse with it in place. with my brother playing with the shifter i came to the conclusion that there just not enough leverage to put it into reverse.

Where did you drill the new hole?

I did it to local 6mt with no issues.

i made sure i had enough space so nothing would get in the way all other gears go in good except reverse. nothing was in the way or anything. just wasnt enough leverage to get it into reverse. works fine on stock position....

m wondering maybe since my tranny was sitting dry for a while i need to put a few miles on it to getthe gear oil circulated better. i did the mod the day i pulled the tranny. i dont think i had this issue prior to draining the tranny and pulling it. the tranny was sitting dry in the garage for like 2 or 3 months..

seems as if I lost a shim or clip or something from the shifter assembly on the transmission. I have to raise the revers lockout to hunt down 5th and 6th gear and reverse goes in a bit hard.....

Maybe don't mess with this kind of thing in the future if you don't exactly know what your doing...sorry not trying to be mean but I've seen so many people on this forum that mess their cars up because they mess with pointless "mods"

Ive screwed around with my shifter length, throw, etc countless times and dont know why this would be. You didnt remove the second cable at any point did you?

The cable you relocate with the STS only affects the throw and the centering of the shifter front to back, no side to side is affected but it sure sounds like the side to side is affected on yours. Take some pictures of what all you did and post them up.

Have you tried letting all of the brakes off (e-brake and pedal) and rocking the car while trying to get in reverse?

this mod is practically as easy as changing the radio station and definitely not "pointless", maybe dont post on mods you dont understand
