Well guess I am riding on my kyb's for awhile. I will never buy a tein product again. This is the biggest joke ever. I heard of horror stories where they lose the strut and people never get them back after a rebuild that is scary. Plus with Japan's issues its hard to get parts.

Good luck to anyone with Tein's because once your strut goes your screwed. I need to spend $25 bucks to expedite the package or it takes 2-3 months to get a piston rod on a container!!! What kind of mickey mouse operation is this place!

Well just bought some megan springs so the setup will be like my celica. I see a lot of teins that are used for sale on ebay LOL.

 

Do you have to have them rebuild it? Can't you just get the strut and rebuild it yourself?

 

What set you have and does they come with camber plates?

Apparently the strut piston I need to get from Japan and it takes awhile so there is no way I could rebuild it unless I got that part. Too bad I can't just replace the struts with some other type.

 

Tein Super Street Coilovers. I have a camber kit on the bottom but these use the top stock mounts. I don't have camber plates with them. They were $1300 new. If I got half that back id be happy.

 

Tein sells the coilovers as a set. If I were to get the strut by itself its probably like $350 bucks for the damper. I don't have a problem installing. The strut is shot meaning fluid is coming out of it. Apparently the strut piston is scored and the valves inside are shot. If I could find a place that supplies the parts I could probably rebuild it myself.

The company d2 no longer does rebuilds, they sell you a new damper for $130 Or the pillow ball mount for $50. Shipping is about a week I've delt with them. I ordered new collars. And they're in the USA. Seems much better than teins service.

 

I am with ya man. Most my celica parts are USA made. JE Pistons, Pauter Rods, and my web cam shafts were all made here in the US and are built tough.

 

I have KSports and the damper (w/piston) is replaceable for ~$120 each damper. Didn't really mean rebuilding the unit itself, sorry.

 

Are you going directly through TEIN USA or are you going through the supplier you got these through?

As I mentioned in the other thread already, you need to go through the person you bought them through if you want results. Dealing with TEIN directly will not work well.

 

That is a good price, wonder how fast rebuild turnover is? I found a guy on youtube last night that rebuilt his teins with gold valves and shims. Looked like a lot of work but heck with the amount of time its going to take to rebuild I could probably engineer my own set! I actually am thinking of experimenting with them if they go out again. I mean all it is a piston, housing, valves, and the oil. You can buy motul or red line strut oil. Even the strut piston I could find something comparable and make it work.

 

I contacted the vendor on ebay so I will see what they say. But I don't see how sending a strut to a vendor and them sending it back to TEIN will really save time or make a difference especially when the piston takes 2-3 weeks to get from Japan. Have you ever dealt with TEIN, called them, or filled out there service order?

The TEIN service order sheet specifically has a place where you put the vendors name you bought it from, date, proof of purchase, etc. They already know who the vendor is.

Spoke with the vendor and he told me to go directly to TEIN since they do the same thing. Trust me im not the only one with issues. You can google and find plenty other forums that say the same things about TEIN from them going out prematurely to customer service going down hill.

I mean the guys were nice on the phone but the way they run the business is not a good business model IMHO. They could have easily sent me another one and used my rebuild as a core. A lot of companies do this already and it eliminates a ton of down time. Same concept as when you need to pay a core price at autozone, pep boys, oreillys, etc.

Bottom line if you need your strut as soon as possible its going to take a month or two. I also think Japan with the tsunami and everything messed up a bunch of manufacturing so right now if you want a car part don't go to Japan for it since its going to take awhile.

 

Cool man. I noticed you live in West Chester, PA. I used to live out there. That whole area in Exton, Downingtown, etc has been built up so much since I lived there.

Ya if there was a US company that made coilovers with good customer service I would buy those all day long.

 

If you went through a good distributor, they will push Tein and they have a lot more impact than 'joe blow' will.

It's not good. The service sucks, a lot. But going through a good distrubutor that makes decent sales will get you faster results. They want to keep those distributors happy and they will make something happen.

They will not help you much. You're just a number. It's a dispicable truth, and I was pissed to learn it about Tein also. If we had a much better choice for coilovers, I would've been all over it for just that reason.
