Brake Question

So I just did my brakes and realized that I should have done a bigger brake upgrade.....

I work at a auto mech shop so I get parts at cost What brakes are going to fit the Maxima. I am looking at either 05 or 08 G35/350Z calipers non brembo twin piston. I have been crossing 6th gen maxima brakes which I know work on 5th gen, but they appear to be different part numbers. Gotta love working at a shop.... problem is you spend all your money on your car cause you "think" you are getting a good deal.... lol

Thanks for any help.

I drive aggressively. I have recently tried the Hawk HPS pads on both the front and rear. Dont recall exact cost but was under $150 for both sets; rear was $65 shipped. Resurfaced front and rear rotors by hand and have slotted front rotors. I have been VERY impressed with the increased stopping power cold and warm. Doing the Hawk suggested break in, I've had zero noise even with the slotted rotors.

Just throwing the suggestion out. I just personally can't see having any additional stopping power (beyond the Hawk) unless you are tracking. For me anyway.

Are you running stock 5.5 gen calipers or a BBK? I'm close to pulling the trigger on the Hawk pads.

Dual piston takes modification to work, check my link in my sig. There is also another thread in this forum regarding cutting the rotors down about 3mm.

I'm running stock calipers and brake lines. Only upgrade is the front slotted rotors, which arguably is more cosmetic than functional upgrade. In any case, I'm sure if you added SS brake lines, you would be amazed.

Previously I was running oem factory pads all around. Upon installing the Hawk, the brake pedal immediately felt firmer and braking comes on with less pedal and force. No bleeding was done or needed. I bled the system last brake job as I replaced both rear calipers with ones from Autozone. So my comparison is strictly to stock setup.

The Hawk still felt a bit like stock at times right after the hard stopping break in procedure. However, now after approximately 500 miles of mixed driving, that is completely gone. Although Hawk indicated the pads were ready for use after the break in, I understood this to be more a seating procedure and there was still a period of actual "break in" which needed to occur. All I can say is HPS pads is my new non-negotiable pad for my cars. I hate I waited so long to install the first set. I can admit when I am wrong.

So, get the pads, get some SS lines if you really want some stopping power. It probably goes without saying, during the seating and break in its good to avoid standing on the brakes when they're hot in order to avoid warping the rotors. Just precautionary.

Hawk pads or EBC pads and brembo blanks make a huge difference if you do both front and back. I personally havent noticed much difference between the Hawk HPS that I had before (or HPS+? whichever are the street/race version not supposedly full race) and the EBC ceramic that I have now. Both are fantastic pads. If your car has good balance put some more aggresive pads on the rears, not great for stock suspension but if your suspension is tightened up like mine the rear bias is too low. more aggressive pads help bring it back

Thanks for the info man. I don't think I'll do the SS lines. Just the pads and some fresh fluid. Any recommendations on rotors? I don't need slotted rotors, and I can't decide between Brembo blanks and the generic auto parts store rotors. I've read a lot of mixed reviews about both so it seems hard to justify the price difference for the Brembo's. I've read good things about Centric blanks but those seem harder to find.

@NMexMax PM sent.

get quality blanks, without a doubt. If you get cheapo blanks you will be kicking yourself a year down the road when you brakes pulsate to a stop

I am currently running Hawk HPS with Brembo blanks. I have broken them in, and I still want more stopping power in the front.

I guess I am going 6th gen maxi brakes or 300zx.

Do brembo's from 05 g35 or 350z work?????

Not without a caliper relocation bracket...

By the time you pay G/Z Brembo prices along with having a relocation bracket made you could have bought 03VQMAX's Wilwood setup and had spent less. Lol...and 03VQMAX is a trusted seller at least with a brand new kit.

G2 - Brake Job

Hi all,

This is my 1st post and I apologize if I'm not in the right place. I cannot create new threads (Paid Members Only) so I searched the newest thread about brakes. Though I'd share some photos for anyone looking at coating their calipers with G2. I'll gladly answer any questions about the photos attached.

That is probably the most creative overspray protection job I've ever seen.

Whats the sense of painting calipers to make them nice if everything else is rusty as hell?

Yea, I guess it looks like the sensible thing to do is the 6th Gen...

Have to rub it in, but it looks like its only going to cost me $300 for everything... Brake lines, Brand new reman calipers, Brembo blanks and either hawk or Akenbono pads.... Gotta love working in the industry I'll dough out a few extra bucks for the SS lines tho.

I paid less for my kit and I'm not "in the biz", although, I didn't get brake lines with mine, use the old existing.

Why 2 sets of wheels? Same car? Weird.

Cause in Canada we get this thing called snow...lol Just kidding, I know a lot of places in the US get snow too... So one set for summers and one set for winter/snow

I just can stand having stock offset rims. So I got 17" 350z rims, and 18" 350z Touring V1 rims. I also wanted to make sure that my wheels would clear any brake upgrades I did.

Yeah I just use the stock 17's for the winter, on Winter Sport 3D's, can't complain. Summer attire is Z33 Tracks with S-Drives.

Oh yeah, snow, that's what the Pathfinder's for.

Most of the snow is almost gone, but this was last weekend about 45 miles from my house.

company called racing brakes makes a caliper relocation kit that moved the stock caliper back so you can run bigger rotors. That is what I use with HAWK ceramic pads....
