Yes - I fear the time when I have to change mine.
Still on the original alternator, at 146k miles.

5thgendriver 09-05-2017 04:25 AM

installed a catted y-pipe and 4 new 02 sensors. what a battle...all bolts were rusted and breaking even after spraying them down 3 times with pb blaster for over 3 weeks.

yeah... i took a chance on a craigslist partout for $20. he claimed it worked prior to the engine jumping timing. i'm hoping for the best but it can't be any worse than the crap you buy at autozone/advance. i figured if/when this goes out i'll get my original rebuilt, until then i'll hope for the best. cars just under 230k miles and only sees about 3k/year. wanting to get this through 20 years

im not trying to give anyone an aneurysm here
My first question
#1.Was there any rubber washers involved in the deal?
#2.was any black window weld ribbon sealer/paint thinner involved in the deal?

Thanks

No washers or paint thinner needed.
They're sealed with black ribbon but there's plenty there to reuse.
You don't need to clean it up. Just tuck any stretched out threads back in place. The ribbon material can be reused over and over.

Just remove the 8mm nuts from inside and push slowly and steadily. Don't hammer it or strike it. If it's really stiff you can push on the individual bolts, one at a time, with a piece of wood or something like that.
This would probably work better in the heat than in the cold.

Sorry this is a headache i know but Were there rubber washers that came off with the OEM tail light?
I removed mine because i was rear ended and had water leaking in.
The impact opened up a gap then rain washed the seal away.
When I removed the lights to reseal the studs looked like they had rubber washers on the studs.
I picked up a couple washers 1/16" thick and bolted these down and now a gap at the top of each tail light.

Ha, I guess there are washers (gaskets) there. I just looked at a few tails I have laying around and there are thin black gaskets around the studs. Hard to imagine them coming off on their own but I guess it's possible. I've pulled a bunch of these and never had one come off.

I'd just put a pinch of the excess ribbon gasket material around the base of the stud if the gasket is missing. That ribbon gasket is good stuff. I keep a roll of it on hand for several different uses. There should be enough excess though to go around the studs.

The ribbon gasket shouldn't wash away with water. It's possible someone had it apart before and cleaned it off. You can get a roll of the ribbon gasket at any parts store. A little goes long way.

Got the Edelmann HPPS hose in.
Works fine!
Sanded then primed bumper cover and now sanding it down with P220 sandpaper.
Drilled out broken studs for bumper mounting brackets.
Put 11/32 crank case hosing in and going for the 1/4" fuel injection return hose

First let me say, it's awesome to be back. I lost my password so couldn't get on here for quite some time. I did the website, loss ur password thing, and never got a temp password to get back on. Anyhow, it finally happened tonight and I am excited.

I have done many repairs to the Maxima, sadly it's a 2000 SE, not with a ton of miles, but age is sure coming thru. Then again, so am I ... hahaha. I replaced the alternator, starter, battery negative with a larger gauge. Ignition switch, and the IACV. All within several months of eachother. Ohh ... and cleaned the TB, everything seems to be working well, however the idle sometimes is spot on, and other times it's a little high. Mine idles right @ 750 normally. Occasionally, it's idles @ 800 in park only for a sec or two, then goes back to 750. I'm not concerned, just don't remember it being this way, no codes or anything.

Yes i agree this is best

But the seal did wash away over time! This was one place the rain was leaking.

Is the "Pure Energy" alternator ok from Rock Auto?

1950guy 09-20-2017 10:30 AM

Not too much

Changed spark plugs. Trying to track down cold misfire. Scanner won't store a code since its cold.

I adjusted my sunroof today. Here is a my how-to on it.

Cleaned it up.

Today I cleaned up my 2000 GXE 5 speed so I could take some photos to post when it is for sale. Can't post it yet since I am a newbie.

AZ is junk, I've had good luck with advance. I've used several and none were bad.

I've had misfires backfire that never flashed codes. It's 80 degrees out.
I assume it's either fuel pressure or ignition related.

I wanted to elaborate that after I did my Injectors/filter I had some hard starting.
I thought it could've been from the 3/8" pcv line I used in place of the OE size. I also considered the 5/16" line could've been the issue.
I doubt it.
Now I'm considering it's time for a new Fuel Pump.
I started the car then shut it off pulled the plug on the MAF then restarted. It's starting but stalling out.
Just ordered the Hitachi FUP0013.

2k2albatross 10-09-2017 02:03 PM

I swapped out the cabin filter:

Graymax03 10-09-2017 03:56 PM

Installed an SRS catback exhaust over the weekend on my 03 maxima. Sounds nice.

Next to nothing in big cities. Dildo sellers think they're gold mines in less populated areas (200k miles, rusted, but only 2,500, what a steal). But most are trashed, so they're worth nothing.

Their value hasn't changed in years, here, even with the increasing mileage. Used car market is ****ed thanks to the **** economy (I know, TV news won't tell you how bad it is).

Not a lot TBH. I'm trying to be realistic. I listed it for $1,200 OBO. I posted in the classifieds.

Derrick2k2SE 10-13-2017 07:46 AM

Cars of this age are really worth what someone will pay for them. There's such a range in condition. They run from near perfect to "don't slam the door!"

I'm about to list my stock 00 GLE. I'm going to ask somewhere between $2,500 and $3,000 for it.

It's got ZERO rust, even on the exhaust and a near perfect interior. Huge list of recently replaced parts and work. I wouldn't ask that if it were ragged out but it would take a lot more than that to have a mechanic bring one up to this condition.

Replaced pump now finding maybe the Beck Arnley fuel filter connect elbow maybe defective/mis sized.
After replacing this I was having issues.
The connect elbow doesn't seem like it's a firm tight connection. It's real loose and isn't square and tight on the post. I sent through a message up there to Beck Arnley about it.
I may just get the Genuine filter as a replacement or may just pull the elbow from the old filter snap a new aftermarket tab in and get submersible fuel line and just use the filter (-) the Beck Arnley elbow.
It looks like a good filter but an oversized elbow.

After almost 10 years of ownership and a little over 100k miles I sold her to Carmax and walked out with a 2016 Hyundai Genesis.

Replaced the driver's side axle for the 75th time. Did the full swap in 27 minutes including jacking/lowering the car.

Got the OP parts axle from ebay. Pictured, it had a vibration dampener, but the one that was delivered didn't....sigh. It does drive better than my previous axle, though, so not a complete waste.

Hey, I can think of a member that needs it lest he totals the car on install.

LOL. Rough crowd out here.

Hey. I know it sounds insignificant but I knew someone that would get a new set of rugs every two years and it really kept the interior looking great. The all weather mats really help you to get more mileage out of the rugs.

Upgr8 air filter and blue LED dome light.

1950guy 05-02-2018 10:49 AM

Had a cold misfire with my 2000 Max GXE. Only lasted about a minute or two until it warmed a little. Only when accelerating. Didn't show a code on scan tool. Took a chance and replaced all 6 coils with about 80k miles on them. That did the trick. It wasn't too much of a gamble since I used very inexpensive coils purchase on Ebay. Perfect fit and seem to work just fine. Even if they last half as long I am still way, way ahead.

GluteusMaximus 05-03-2018 01:57 PM

I halked up a giant loogie and spat it all over the instrument panel because for no reason whatsoever my pcm started smoking, threw a p505 idle code and now won't start at all.

I had a 1989 max best car I ever owned then bought 2001 max has been the worst car I ever owned as far as expensive problems (rust, brakes, electrical, suspension, radio lasted less than six months when I bought it new, now computer is fried) will never buy anything nissan ever again.

Did a couple of 0-60 runs using Ulysses Speedometer app GPS. Not scientific, but two way runs about 10.7 seconds. Just mashed the throttle. Kind of short of the 7 seconds it was supposed to be new.

2001 GLE Auto, running regular gas.
