Starting issue

This morning I went to start my car and everything came on but the engine would not start. I turned the key again and it barely turned over, the starter sounded weak and the dash lights flickered. After school I went to start it and nothing. Would not start. Had someone jump it and it would not start. Again radio and dash lights came on but not the engine. Any suggestions? I need to get some idea of what to do.

The battery is discharged, but why is the question. When you had the car jumped, it should have started if done properly. Are the battery cables clean and tight? Cables can corrode where the wire goes into the connector so this is another spot to inspect carefully. Get the battery checked. It may be shorted internally and besides not holding a charge, it can keep you fron jump starting the car.

They used one of those jumper boxes. Should I use a car instead? I will have to check the terminals too

Try wacking the starter a few times to see if its the starter. While jumping it. You might have a bad starter and battery. Check the fuses too.

I believe that jumper boxes are better than getting a jump from a car, but that means nothing since neither way worked.

I still think you should take the battery to an auto store and get them to test the battery. A fully charged battery starts the car better then using jumper cables. Once you have a known good battery, you will then be able to determine if the starter has a problem.

Had the autos shop class in my school roll the car into the garage and after they checked it they decided it was the starter. There goes $100 I don't have.

13 years on a starter isn't bad (if original).
